I have a 2004 BMW Z4 E85 with a new top motor and pump but I don't know how the sound insulator attachs to the frame. It was detached when I received the car. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Has it been relocated to the boot? If it has more than likely the plastic pot it lives in the original position is probably still there as its zip tied in there and a bugger to get out. If the motor/pump is now relocated in the boot and the noise it makes is troubling you just wrap some foam around it and zip tie it on. Mine is relocated and is fitted behind the side carpet and secured with zip ties to a bracket that is behind the carpet. My original soundproofing was dry and undamaged so just wrapped that around the pump/motor again secured with zip ties. I got the whole of the original plastic pot out and it resides in my garage as a trophy, made the unit too bulky to fit behind the carpet.

That is exactly what I needed. Mine had the bottom half of the unit sitting in the bottm of the hole so it kind of made a nice bowl and plugged the drain hole.
