2004 Z4 roof stuck

Hi all,

My roof motor went last year and I pulled the red lever in the boot and put it up and down a couple of times manually. It was nice today so I manually put it down and now it’s stuck and won’t go back up. Any suggestions? I’ve been putting off getting it fixed but guess it might be time now. Are there any good independent garages in North Kent that ppl can recommend? Otherwise tonbridge main dealer but think they will charge me a lot. The Sevenoaks branch once wanted £469 to fix my fallen window. I just opened the door liner and rebolted the window and it was fixed but it made me lose all confidence in main dealer.

Thanks

Hi, why don’t you take the day off & arrange to see one of the many forum members who can fix this and relocate the motor to the boot? All done for a fraction of the cost a main dealer would charge. No brainer

Great idea. Is Bowser134 still doing this? I’ve heard he is the guy to go to in the south? I tried to pm him but not sure it went through. Thanks

Could anybody help me to contact bowser134? The ‘roof guy’ thread is locked.

Thanks

You should be able to pm or possibly email him via the forum?

I have sent him a pm on your behalf

If you can still hear the motor running, it sounds like a simple case that the Hydraulic bypass valve is stuck in. Bowser will be able to fix that with his eyes shut.

Hi there, just joined the forum.
My partner has what seems to be a very common problem with the Z4 , the roof motors are not working.
She has a 2004 Z4 , the roof was working fine until late last summer when it seemed to jam (most likely water corrosion in the motors judging by other comments on the forum), we could lower and raise the roof manually with a bit of effort so it seems they are not too badly corroded.
I am hoping one of the repair experts on here can help us out at a reasonable price rather than paying the high prices at a BMW garage.
We are based in Gloucester so Number 5 from Bristol seems a great choice.
Would really appreciate it Number 5 if you could contact us , or if anybody knows him maybe they could let him know.
Thanks.

Another victim of the roof fault. Motor is still running but gave off a screaming noise before roof fails to open or close.

I'm hoping that I can contact Bowser and he'll be able to help rescue this one also.

That sounds like busted house if the motor is still running. There are a few of us repairing these, so would help if you add your location? Replacing the hose is a 30 min job.

Mike

Thanks Mike. I'm located in Reading, Berkshire (South East)

My thinking is that it's either the housing or the hose has corroded and split. Appreciating anyone who has expertise in this as I'm sure it's going to be easier and quicker than figuring this out myself.

Thank you

I went and had my roof motor replaced and relocated to the boot by Bowser who did a really nice job. Unfortunately, my roof has stopped working again so could it be the Hydraulic bypass valve? It did the same thing it did before. Motor was working fine and had it up and down 15-20 times since Bowser changed the motor and then suddenly the motor makes a whining noise and seems to lose power which is pretty much what it did before. Fortunately, I managed to get in the roof closed position this time.

Not sure if it is related but just about where the passengers left ear would be there is a small tear in the roof lining and the rubber there looks like it has been rubbing on something but doesn't seem to actually hit anything when the roof goes up and down.

Any ideas?

Cheers
