Rather unexpectedly I’m back in this section of the forum much sooner than I anticipated.

I’m offering up my Zed to users here first prior to advertising elsewhere.

I have a number of threads recording the car and the odd jobs I’ve needed doing in the last 12 months of ownership, however, I’ll endeavour to summarise here too.

This is my second 3.0 M54 engined E85 Z4 and if you’re after one of these for the better weather that’s loading then I think you will struggle to find another like this one. The list of options is long so I will likely miss something but here goes

2004 E85 3.0
Sterling Grey
Manual
84,XXX miles
Very good condition 108 alloys
Black Leather Heated Electric Memory M-Sport seats
M-Sport MFSW
Sat Nav with Business Stereo
AUX input
Cruise Control
Cup Holders x 2
Rear Parking Sensors
Electrically adjustable folding mirrors
Extended Leather on dash, a-pillars and windscreen surround
OEM ZHP gear knob
GapTech roof module allowing for open/close on the key, one touch open/close and open/close whilst moving albeit at crawling speed
BlueMusic Bluetooth module

All book packs and instruction booklets present along with updated (latest so 2016 IIRC sat nav disc).

2 x Keys

I’m not sure if there is anything it’s ‘missing’ from the options list. When I was searching I didn’t see a single car with all of the above.

In the last 12 months I have spent in excess of £2.5k sorting through a number of issues that were likely resulting from little use over the few years before I purchased it. It’s only averaged 3/3.5k miles per year of its life.

New Steering Angle Sensor
New SBSL and SBSR modules and recoded to car
New front top shock mounts
Adjustable drop links
Auxiliary drive belt
Front brake flexi hoses and brake bleed nipples
All exhaust nuts and brackets replaced with new studs and flat gaskets
4 x Uniroyal Rainsport 5 tyres

Evidence of rocker cover gasket having been replaced in 2020.

Roof motor relocated to boot.

15 recorded services in the original service booklet.

The brutally honest bits -

A few minor scratches commensurate with age, the car is currently hiding in the garage but I will endeavour to get good photos of them over the coming weekend.

The drivers side front wing has had paint during its time with a previous owner and the colour match is poor. I’ve been searching for a SG replacement wing as they are relatively cheap and straightforward to swap and although I’ve been offered a couple in the last few months neither have been quite up to the condition I would want to put on the car (essentially replacing a good condition colour mismatch panel for a matching panel that is scratched and in need of paint) so if I was keeping it this would remain on my to do list.

The MFSW plastics had the usual scratches.

The radio on/off button doesn’t click in/out so I turn the radio off by turning it down, if that makes sense.

MOT is due in May. It had a single advisory for “rear brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material” (greased to prevent corrosion). The car has only covered ~2.5k miles since so I’m confident it will go back though. If this ends up being a deal maker/breaker then we can discuss getting it retested early.

Last oil service was Feb last year so I would be looking to do an oil service, albeit not required, if I was keeping it.

The private reg R5 TMH will be taken off the car and the reg going back on will be DD04 GOF.

I will enjoy it on a sunny day if we get any before it sells so mileage may increase a little.

I’m not in a rush to sell, I also know if I decide (again) that selling was a terrible idea and want to get back into a Z4 that I will really struggle to find one to match this example.

My ask is £5495 but happy to hear from anyone on here that wants to reach out with a sensible offer.

Thanks all,
Scott.

Whilst I think of it, the passenger door Bowden cable has the usual ‘stretch’. It does still function even after sitting in the sun but it does require a ‘lift’ rather than a pull so I suppose that would be on the list to address too but minor annoyance than failure.

Happily for me the car is still for sale which means this weekend I get to use it on this weekends planned road trip.

This afternoon it was time to take it out of the garage, do some pre road trip checks and balances, load up on some essentials and give it a quick spruce ahead of setting off early tomorrow morning. I’m heading west from Bournemouth to Cornwall following the coast as much as possible then a blast over Dartmoor before an overnight stop in Portloe. Sunday is Lands End, back along the north coast and home via Cheddar Gorge. Should be 5/600 miles in all. So when I get back the car will be on 85XXX miles.

If anyone has any must do/avoid routes or roads along the journey between Jurassic Coast and Lands End and back let me know.

I’ll take some updated pictures of the car along the way and share them back here as the pictures above are from the back end of last summer 👍

So, headed out this morning a little after 7am. Headed off through Wareham, Weymouth, and onto the B3157 through Chickerell, Abbotsbury and Bridport. Then headed onto Lyme Regis and the A3052.

Next up, just past Exeter I joined the B3212 over the moors, through Moretonhapstead, Princetown and Dousland before a quick coffee stop and heading off for Saltash.

Over the Tamar Bridge, then followed the major a-roads before dropping down onto single track lanes heading for Portloe which is the stopover for the night.

Had this weekend planned for a few months now and I couldn’t have picked better weather.

The Zed was in top form. Really nice to have it back out of the garage (but it does have to go). Only one minor - passenger side headlight bulb blew so needs replacing which I will do when I’m back on Monday - otherwise a faultless drive.

Roll on tomorrow.

So, the return leg of the trip from Portloe back to Bournemouth on Sunday took in the A39 up through Bude and into Exmoor. Here I picked up the B3358 then the B3223 and the B3224. Then I headed for Cheddar and a drive through the Gorge before heading back down south to Bournemouth. Amazing weekend, averaged 7+ hours driving across both days and I immediately wanted to go back and do it again. Car was flawless bar that one headlight bulb which has now been replaced. Still only on 84761 miles too 👍

Whoever comes and drives this away will be very pleased with it Im certain.

It will be being advertised elsewhere too imminently.
