2004 3.0l starter motor

I’ve read a few posts about starter motor changes with some saying it’s ok and some saying it’s tricky. Can anybody give me the definitive answer on the 3.0l?

Is it ok and can it be done without removing the manifold?

I *think* the chief easy/hard driver is whether it's an automatic or not.

I’ve done a 3.0 auto and easy enough without removing anything other than the sound generator
