2004 3.0L Brake Options?

Hi All,

I am about to collect my Z4 3.0 from my local indie having had the CDV deleted. My question is what brake upgrades do I have? I have 18 inch ellipsoids fitted and the M suspension. Nearly forgot its a 2004 year. My previous car had 4 pot brembos which were v-nice. I don't have 2K to spend on new brakes. What is the increase in disc size from an E46?

I changed pads to textar epads, hoses to HEL and fluid to Castrol React and have noticed a decent improvement. Much cheaper than a BBK too and more than suitable for day to day driving.

Dont know if the 3litre si brakes are a direct swap? Would be handy as they use bigger discs.

they are indeed :) 325mm front brakes then, they are the same bits as the front of an e46 330ci as well

Dear All,

I have been offered a set of M3 front hubs, callipers and discs although price has not been mentioned yet. Any ideas of what to expect re price?

I don't think they will fit. The M3 E46 has different struts to the e85. The front Hubs don't match the the E85 struts
Better just
i) Fit and after market set of calipers/brakes.
ii) Fit the 3.0 si carriers and hubs and drilled grooved discs with decent pads 325mm rotors (e46 M3 i think are 345mm?)

If you have different experience/knowledge let us know. If your theory works it could be an interesting mod?

Hi,

Looks like we have similar spec cars. I have 2004 3.0l which has had a CDV deleted, poly bushed front suspension. I have also fitted an Ultra Racing strut brace, stainless braided brake lines and a v1 gear knob.

My local indie garage specialise in BM's and believe it is possible to change the stubs and discs etc for the M3. If this is possible I will ask him to take pics and get them posted. I really want an improvement over the stock brakes. My last car had 4 pot brembos which is probably why I am looking for improvement.

Will keep you posted.

Dear All,

Well what started as an interesting idea looks like its doomed. Dave from my local indie garage has looked at the M3 front brakes. Basically I have the stubs and discs etc. There are two problems. The kit is off an older M3 which has the grey ABS plug and my car has the blue ones. Also the bottom arm would have to me changed for an M3 one plus relevant bushes. The lower ball joint is slightly bigger on the M3. He has gone away again to see if its still feasible. Looking at the M3 callipers and discs soooooooooooooo much bigger. I have to be honest I feel like Tarquin is not allowed to ride his pony today. B*gger.

Nearly forgot the struts fit fine.

The other option is big brake kits which cost £££££££.

Hard luck. You had a go but you say the indie is still looking into it .
There may be some other options from other models with bigger than 325 discs?
Real OEM site it good for looking at model/part options
