2004 3.0L alarm issue

Mikey H kindly suggested a put out a request on this page for any advice regarding my 2004 3.0L which I've owned for less than a month.

The previous owner did state that he had to lock the car using a key rather than the fob because if he did the alarm seemed to go off all the time. This happened to me a few times and so I have started locking the car with the key but, of course, that's not ideal because I want the alarm to be set overnight in particular.

Could it be a sensor? Any help would be appreciated.

Best regards,

First step would be to disconnect the sensor under the bonnet. At the rear, between the brace mountings.
That is the usual culprit.
If that doesn't sort it then get a code reader on it and see if it tells you which bit is causing the issue.
You may then be able to use Scanner 1.4 to code that part out.

My thanks to bigwinn and enuff_zed for getting back to me so quickly. Tbh, I'm going to mention this to the BMW garage when it goes in for its MOT and Full Service. With a bit of luck they will check out the sensors first which would be good news when you 'hear' that hourly diagnostic rate. Hopefully, this will be sorted without any drama.

Thanks again,

Don't waste an hour of garage rates on that! Simply unplug it! Couldn't be simpler. Tuck the plug back out of the way and see if it cures it.

mine did the same and BMW Scanner 1.4 identified that it was the internal motion sensor that was activating so i just disabled it and its been fine ever since.

I had one that did that and it turned out to be due to the spare alternator sitting in the passenger footwell?
No idea how, but removed that and the motion sensor was happy again.

Out of interest, where does the motion sensor live? It says "radar" in TIS - can't decide if a ruddy great lump of metal might upset things.

Isn't it the MDD thing? Small black box behind the handbrake? At least that's the control module. I suppose there must be other sensors? Maybe it doesn't need them?

Grr, I meant RealOEM, not TIS, which shows a module and bracket that implies it's mounted "under" something without giving a clue where it is.

Thinking about it, I found an online WDS yesterday (lost access to my local one ages ago.) That might have something...

Edit: The WDS description is a bit off (it's either for a coupe or more generic ultrasonic system.) Otherwise it's a stand alone thing, no separate antennas or inductive pickups (which I was expecting.)
