Hi,

So I'm thinking about purchasing a 2004 2.5L Z4, 30,600km, 19,000miles. Car was registered in Edmonton, Alberta (lots of snow),Bought in Seattle direct from dealer. But it is a one owner no accidents and all records are at the BMW Store. He bought the car in late 2004 but did not start driving it until 2005. He had a truck back in Edmonton so it was not driven in any Alberta winters. He came here in September of 2006 for a medical residency and it has been his only car since that time so it was driven in winters here.

The warranty is full, with remaining bumper to bumper for another 5 months. He had some recent warranty work done, a faulty latch on the top and a shock tower mount(Due to some rattling) were replaced at the BMW store.

It's a the standard model with heated seats and cruise for the options. 5 Speed Manual, White with manual soft top. One owner, no accidents.

His asking price is $25,000 CAD

Just for your reference I got a 2004 2.5i in February of this year. It has about the same miles and still has warranty on it. It was a one owner car here local near my home. No crashes of any kind, all maintenance with records at the local BMW dealer. All options except factory Sat/Nav and CD player. It has a power top and Xenon headlights. I got it for a flat $20.000. I hope this helps you in your decision. The Zed can be seen on my web page :)

So manual top for the loose? Is it that bad? I mean won't repair cost be cheaper since the motor can never break down? Please advise... Also I'm in canada so all car prices are higher up ~~.

Also where is the best place to do a pre purchase inspection? and BMW Dealership or a Reputable Mechanic?

And will it be hard to resale a base model standard trans w/o sport package or auto soft top? I mean for those who don't have sport package wouldn't they go tiptronic?

Also what can I expect for maintenance cost? He says the brakes/tires are fine. Should I bother getting extended warranty? I was planning on getting a 350z or G35, due to reliability and maintenance but reading up on Edmunds it looks like the 04 Z4 is pretty reliable.. .Any thoughts? What sort of maintenance cost am I looking at after the 4 yr, 30,600km ? Brakes pad/rotor change? Tires? other mechanical problems? The manual soft top will not require much maintenance right? and what about leaks etc driving in rain/winter?

Thanks in advance.!

So, I test drove the car today. It's in pristine condition. He bought the car from the states, direct from the dealer then got it shipped to Edmonton where he barely drove because he had his truck(due to the snow) He then moved to BC and used it as a daily driver. During the shipping the bottom of the bumper had a little crack and was re bonded and repainted. All the service records look good, he has NRF tires and some after market rims on there.

The steering wheel had a small tear which he fixed. Body looks good no dents.

Because the car has been registered in Edmonton, Alberta (people raise a red flag due to the salt on the roads from the harsh weather), and since it's bought from the states, the resale value will be lower. How much do you think I should offer for this car? His asking is 25k. I am going to find out the trade in value from a local BMW dealership.

Also he said in order for BMW Seattle to sell to him they had to title the car to the dealership and sell it as a demo even though it wasn't? And When he got is DRL done the car was at 310miles.
