2004 2.5 Not Starting

Hi Guys,

Got a problems with the Z4, it's a 2004 2.5, got in the car this morning and turned her over, it almost sounded like it hesitated to start. Didn't think much of it, got some petrol, happened again. Went to my friends and each time I started the car the same. Got home, tried again this evening and the car is dead. Nothing. Lights come on, wipers come on, I can hear the fuel pump kick in but when I turn the key to start nothing. Engine doesn't turn just nothing. I've checked the battery, green light is on, I got a mate to help to jump start the car and again nothing, just even try to turn over.

Has anyone got any ideas please?

Sounds like starter motor,

Open the bonnet and locate the starter motor get someone to turn the key to the start position while you tap the main body of the starter with something substantial

Hopefully it will turn over and start, if it does you need a new starter motor, if it doesn't then you need to check further.

You said it seemed as though it wasn't going to start a couple of times before it packed up, if its not turning over now it could be the starter motor.

When it was running was it as normal?

Thanks guys, I'm thinking the starter motor is the main culprit here

The car was running normal before today, this morning when it did work was running fine even if it was a bit hesitant to start

I'll have to try the giving it a tap and see what happens

100% starter motor

Awesome thanks, does anyone know how easy or difficult they are to change?
Verify starter is faulty by giving the starter body a good tap while a friend is in the car with key in start position ( as mentioned above ). If it starts, then for sure the starter. Takes about 1 hour to change the stater...its very easy.

sounds just like mine, hesitation to start for a few days then nothing

Last week I bought a replacement on Europarts for £46 and paid a mobile mechanic to fit it for £50.

Mobile mechanic round and it's the starter motor as everyone said. £80 and £65 to replace and fit, not the best price but not out ragious by the looks of things. Could of been worse I guess

Thanks for all the help guys, this website is top notch
