I was trying to get my factory radio deck replaced with an aftermarket. Installation cost was included for free but the installer told me that since the premium sound system in the z4 was digital the aftermarket radio deck wouldn't work without replacing the whole audio system.

Wanted a new deck that had an auxiliary or usb input to connect ipod since 03 factory stereo didn't have one. Anybody know of an aftermarket stereo that will work or if newer models of the z4 factory radio can be used in the 03 z4

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, an after market head unit will not work with the top hi-fi amp. But you could directly drive the speakers with the head unit or a new amp. You will likely have to give up on driving some speakers, unless you put in 10 channels worth of amps. :o The Carver subs use a weird voltage, so you couldn't use those for sure.

It's very easy to add an Aux In capability to any OEM head unit, search around a bit, there's a how to somewhere here.

To find out what radios go in which years, check out realoem.com. You can put in any part number in the application search to get which vehicles it works in. There are also adapters available to add iPod or USB functionality to OEM radios that work off the CD changer prep wiring in every car. Just a matter of more searching. :)

Thanks for your help. I found an adapter on bavarian sound werks that will work with the car. Should come this week then just have to install it in the car :D
