2003 Z4 How thick are main dealers not happy!.

Hi, I posted a few days back about a problem with my Z4 head unit controls not working or cd unit but sat nav screen is ect
I was advised by a member hear to check fuse (thanks) I have a Good friend that owns a Garage and does all my work on both BMWS free apart from parts : ) he was away until today so I was going to look into this problem myself
I did not get a handbook with the Z4 so I was unsure of where the fuse box was so I popped to bmw that is not far from me.
Spoke to someone at parts desk that sent me to sales she was surprised he sent me to sale so she then talked to parts and service and finally sent one of the workshop team out to tell me whats what.
The mech was a guy in his late 50s so I trusted what he was saying he told me the fuse box was under the glove box panel theres two screws u remove and there I would find my fuse box!
I go home do just that and all that was there was the light for the foot well?! He also told me if its not a fuse I can prize the large silver dash surround panel off with a flat headed screw driver and remove head unit and plug it back in that normally works?
So after not finding the fuse box I wait till today as my garage owning friend is back and take it to him only to find the fuse box is behind the glove box (all fuses are ok) and that u cant just prize off the silver dash u remove it by removing some screws from inside glove box.
So what the hell is up with these thick idiots at bmw? waste of time and ive now got a little bit of the silver dash on the passenger corner prized up that I will get pushed back in after I get the head unit sorted!
My friend was amazed at what bmw had told me! He understood why I tried prizing the silver surround off as ive installed my own ice install in my E46 330 Sport vert and as u may know with the E46 the dash panels prize of with ease so I thought it was the same set up!
So my Z4s going to my Friends next week and he will sort it out and iam going to speak to bmw complaints team as well as this is jokes! Cheers Allen.
 
to remove the headunit you remove the air vents above it (easy job when you know how) and then the head unit is just held in place with two screws.

to remove the dash trim you need to do the above aswel as remove the side air vent (two screws) and then remove a clip from behind the silver panel by reaching through where the airvent was. then you can carefully pry it off.

you dont need to touch the glove box at all. bmw are complete apes it would appear
 
blimey sounds a moron!

let me know how you get on with the radio as mine often freezes, i recon its the nav unit.

for future reference and to sve you stress the fuse box is behinde the glove box. open the glove box and at the top edge under the dash one each side there is a locking tab. pres these in and the box will swing down and reveal the fuse box.

Thanks Guys that's blessings : ) Iam starting to think was he saying this rubbish to help his boss get custom by me booking the car in because I couldn't find the fuse box and I ruin the front dash!.
What he don't know is that iam not thick iam just notorious for snapping things so ive learnt to ask before going at it! So when I do go back to see them its not to book the car in its to go at that mug that tried mugging me off and management for allowing staff to do this.
Ill wait outside till the place has a fair few customers in the show room and then go in and make a scene lmfao I feel disrespected by them when u guys can come at me with the truth ...and people say don't trust car forums lol Well I say don't trust main dealers!!! Thanks Again Guys : )

who says that? ive always had the the most cost effective method/straight in the arse advice on car forums.

Even on my last car tt 225 tt-forum was great, what a shed of a car tho.
 
To be fair I think you're being a bit harsh on the guy - he told you where the fuses were, you just couldn't find them because you don't have a manual (available online / on here with a bit of google work). As for the dash advice, you do realise how many models have been launched since our cars ? He probably doesn't see that many, has to take the dash off event less... And of course they have a very thick instruction book to tell them what to do if that is what is required.

I'm glad your mate is going to fix the issues, and that you're delighted to have found this forum - but seriously, leave the guy at the dealer alone. He was just trying to be helpful.

I agree Bing, the chap did give free advise and was right about the location of the fusebox
 
Free advice is worth just what you paid for it, so you really have no complaint with BMW. As others have said the BMW mechanics will have the online manual to hand and follow it to the letter, so you cannot expect them to give free advice and be spot on for every car and model.

If you'd been a paying customer and any issues arose they'd have asked other technicians, checked the manuals, called BMW support, etc. etc. fixed it and sent you car back sorted and of course a bill.
 
I know its wound you up OP but I have to agree with Bing, there's more to worry about than a bit of slightly wrong advice. :D I doubt very much there was malice or intent. More like a bit of ignorance about the fine details on that model.
 
I understand what you guys are saying I do and as for me going to making a scene that was a joke but.......
If u read the post he told me unscrew the bottom panel (he even made me feel for the screw holes) where the foot well is under glove box and we all (me now) know that's not where the fuse box is so that information he gave was wrong so nothing he told me helped me at all apart from now I know how to change the foot well light bulb : )
The reason I didn't ask your guys first about the dash is whilst I was at bmw asking about the fuse box it made sense to ask them about the dash.
What I don't understand is he guessed everything and to me that's what u would expect from kwick fit!
If he didn't know or no one else could help at that time he could of gave me the option to book it in so they could spend time on finding out for me?
So yeah hes a mug standard.
