2003 Z4 bonnet stuck

The engine noise could well be an indication of low oil... so now you can open the bonnet you can check :)

All you have to do is to go in through the headlight flap [were you change the bulbs] look for the black bonnet wires and give them a tug.

Methinks you may have missed the point though.
The 'wires' had become disconnected from the catch.
He's in now anyway.

I will have a look at the oil and top up if necessary. Not sure if that's the issue or not, if I can't get it resolved I might start another thread asking for advice or post the noise here.

I've already got it open now, thanks for the tip though.

I cleaned up the latch with WD40 now, I'd recommend anyone else to do it if they get a chance because it was covered in gunk. The release works now from in the car but it seems the cable is a little stretched so I'm going to see if I can shorten it from where the release handle is inside when I get a chance

WD is only water displacement or something. You want to make sure it’s greased with something as well. I use my motorbike chain spray. Think it’s a lithium grease.

I cleaned it up with WD40 and then used lithium grease on the mechanism, it pops so effortlessly compared to before.

I was a little low on oil so I topped it up and it fixed the ticking noise after going for a small drive round the block, so all is good now. Thanks to everyone for the input

I had the same issue with my 03 plate. I had my partner sit on the bonnet while I pulled the the bonnet handle. It worked a treat. I then cleaned and got rid of all the gunk and used WD40. Looked this method up on youtube it worked.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd drop a message here to remind everyone to give their bonnet catch a clean up if it feels like it's starting to become stiff to open :D
