2003 Z4 B pillar sensor repair

Ok. Thanks. I’ll keep searching the numbers you originally sent to me and will get in touch if I’m successful. Am I correct in thinking that the second list you posted is not applicable as they’re for the right b pillar?

Yup, they were for the other chap

Other chap here.
I've found a seemingly suitable sensor on EBay 2nd hand.
My specialist says he can't code a 2nd hand unit to the car.
Are there any bypasses that would allow a 2nd hand unit to be coded.
Thanks

He will need a few bits of specific software.
There is a guide on here somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.
Be aware though that if the unit you buy has been 'triggered' by a crash it will be locked and not usable.

Here you go, I used this, with Whatsapp assistance from [ref]street[/ref], and was able to code the module I fitted ok.

An update; Thanks to Enuff_zed’s advice and expertise, not only is the airbag sensor successfully replaced and coded, a faulty yaw sensor was identified, sourced and replaced. Martin went above and beyond to solve the car’s problems. A top man. This forum is a wonderful resource

Very kind of you to give this feedback. Always good to see someone happy with their car again.

I'm a little late to the party here guys, but I have the same problem with my sensor Left B pillar and can't find a replacement anywhere! 6928571 is the part number. Anyone help?

Thanks Usel, rang them this morning, apparently its not actually in stock, nor is the newer applicable version 65-77-6948087!

You can use any of these exchangeable ones.
But be warned that this particular batch of numbers seems to have become quite scarce.
I have three other people searching for them as well.

So no one can find these anywhere then? Does that mean I'll never be able to fix the issue? Can these things not be repaired or something like that, refurbed maybe?

They seem to mostly be on early cars, so I guess they are gradually dying off.
I am doing some research into repairs, but at present I can only find companies who will repair the centre module.

I am not sure exactly why they have to be particular numbers. I intend to try a few other options if I get a breaker that I don't mind messing up. I wonder if its the three modules that all have to match each other, in which case possibly we can resolve it by swapping out all three for a matched set? However, this is just hypothesising at the moment.
Keep searching!

Yeah that does sound like a real gamble, but I suppose if you're the mechanicy type, with the time money and wherewithal to try it out, you might make a small fortune being the mad scientist that figured that out!

Me?, I'm just a guy who loves his Z4 and couldn't bear to see it die for something so silly! But I have no expertise whatsoever sadly!

What makes its harder is finding it online, in parts shops or sites or whatever, only to find that in truth they don't have it in stock even when it says/looks like they do! 😪

I have a couple of breakers who send me any modules they get. I'm not hiding them away, just makes sense to gather them up as I have the software and knowledge now to supply, fit and code.
At present, nothing that will help you but they keep slowly drifting in, so don't give up hope.
Keep looking yourself too.
Must be from a non-crashed car, and no signs of any water ingress.

That's good advice, thanks! I'll call round some local scrap places and let them know I'm on the lookout too! And obviously let me know (I'm back of the queue of course) if you do get one! Thanks again!

If you do find one, I would be interested in the others

With the difficulty in finding replacement modules cropping up more and more I wonder if owners are going to be forced into adding one of the kits that times the airbag light fooling the observer in seeing a working system. If these are fitted it is very doubtful that the airbags would fire in the case of an accident as the original fault that brought the light on will remain and will show up as a code when scanned, all these kits do is mimic the time the light is illuminated when the car is started. Not something I would want on my cars but people may well be forced into going down this route to keep their car on the road rather than scrap it.
