Well hello all i'm new to the forum, really trying to help a friend out with a z4. its an "03 2.5 roadster and the airbag light is on, unfortunately it is also mot test time so a big fail there.

Now I have scanned it with the Delphi ds150, I do not have the fault code to hand right now but it is presenting Airbag control unit: internal error. Browsing through the forums it seems quite common but my big issue is this, can it be replaced with a used unit and recoded at the BMW dealers?. Again, like a moron I don't have the part number off the control unit to hand so really could do with a bit of info on the differences in units I know with a lot of manufacturers as the model progresses the part numbers tend to superceed to 1 number that fits all.

Thank you all for looking and any light that can be shed

I believe there is a common fault that can be related to a grounding issue? so I would double check it is actually the module that is faulty?

I also had a voltage issue with a connection... being dirty which changed the resistance/voltage produced, causing the fault. BMW tech cleaned a single wire connector in my battery compartment which cleared up my fault. There are two connections/connectors under the seats... one each side. They also can fault if dirty/wet. But if you are going to clean those connections you need to disconnect the battery...clean the connections and then re-connect the battery. If you don't you will cause an air bag fault, which can't be cleared by a cheap E-Bay reader. Only proper software/BMW code reading reader can clear those faults.
