2003 BMW Z4 INTAKE BOOT CONNECTION BLOCKED OFF

I recently purchased a 2003 BMW Z4 and noticed that the previous owner had blocked off the large hose as shown in the picture. I would appreciate it if anyone can explain what connection this may be and what was possibly removed. Thanks

I think thats the sound generator hole- maybe it was installed and got taken off?

I don’t think it’s the sound generator hole as that originates from a separate item to the air hose, i think that led to an air reservoir of sorts.
Our old 2.2 z3 had one fitted & when the hose split (as they do) the replacement didn’t have the same openings, it made zero difference to the running of the engine.

I noticed that some intake hoses have them and some don't, however I still would like to know exactly what was ommited from the car.
