2003 BMW Z4 3.0i Interior Roof Front Plastic Panel Rattling

I have a 2003 Z4 3.0i and there is a rattling in the driver-side roof cover just near the connection to the windshield. It looks like there is a loose section that I cannot figure out how to secure properly. If you push on it, the rattling stops, but I have not been able to figure out how to fix this loose piece. I have noticed on the right side of the car the same spot is secure and not hanging loose. Can anyone help me figure out how to fix this?

You can see in the photos it’s the top plastic piece that is loose. This front plastic piece runs all the way across the front of the convertible cloth roof. My finger is holding the plastic piece in where it should be tight.

I looked at mine and both sides hang down like yours, but they do not rattle.

It is not supposed to be loose. One side of this plastic piece is solid on my car. The other side is loose. I will do more research to figure out why this is. Hopefully someone else has fixed this problem in the past and is on this forum!

I had exactly the same problem, clips where broken on the underside of the trim. I purchased a second hand trim from a fellow member. No more ratting or hanging down. Hope that helps you.

If you find the Lugs are broken, which it sounds like I have 2 available…in pristine condition….can post ..Recently sent one to Australia and it arrived intact.
Easy enough to fit.
Let me know if this helps.

£86+ postage….UK About £10

Do you have any recommendations on removing this piece without breaking more of the clips. I will have to buy more of these clips.

Carefully :D and 2 person operation …one each side to hold it firmly till all the are screws are removed

To access the middle one remove the small panel.
To see the end ones move the roof back about 1/3 of the way.
