I am new here and was reading some of the topics. I owned Corvette's for over 25 years and loved them. When it came time to buy a new car, I was looking at BMW Z4's. My fiance' said they are a good car and convinced me to get one. I did. People would say to me..."So you have upgraded". I was like.. :x I would never ever buy another BMW. I ordered mine because of options I didn't or did want. It's a nice looking vehicle, I will admit...but I had more problems with this car from the get go. For one thing, I had to replace the dry rot tires at about 20,000 miles. My Convertible top button broke...my cup holder broke...then my window fell down inside the door, among other issues. Once the warranty expired, I had to buy a new battery, new starter, new belts, etc. Now I need a new alternator. My Z4 has 40,000 miles on it and it is a 2003...I can only imagine what is ahead with this car. I love the car...but personally, I think BMW's are not what they are made out to be. Never really wanted one....and never will again. I'd take a Chevy (preferably Corvette) any day over BMW.

To be fair 10 year old tyres are going to be rotten and when buying a 10 year old car one must expect some issues with the vehicle , moreso if it hasnt been looked after . I bought a 2004 car 2.5 years ago with 48,000 miles on the clock the car has now 72,000 miles and all I have replaced is a coil pack ( touches wood ) . Im also partail to a bit of trolling

had some minor problems with mine 2003 2.5 you could've prevented your convertible top to break down by cleaing the drainings.
i think the first z4's were kinda shaggy because the were build with out a good quality control, i hoped bmw sacked the quality control guys at the spartanburg plant. ( yes that's in your country)
to be honest i don't like US car's (except for real American musle like a corvette or mustang ) because they arn't made for cornering, ( unlike in the US our countries do have a lot of curvey roads),my grandpa had a crystler stratos what a crap car was that. gear changing was hell ( stick shift )
after teh facelift Z4 became more reliable, and i have to say i like my 2003 more then a facelift because of the looks.
i've you'd never want a BMW anymore why sign up here ? just to say your car is rubish ? , a bmw is almost alway a good car, ( certainly when build in europe), to bad the Z4 was build at the US.
( don't think i hate the US or americans, i love the country, i just hate rubish build cars form the usa)

Sounds like a Friday car - tyres could happen with any marque, some in the US are even know to shed their tread patterns and totally disintegrate. The rest sounds like some bad luck - personally I love mine, there are some questions on build quality on some of the components (cup holders, sun blinds) but engines and body are pretty much faultless.

As others have said I have had the same experience, only niggles which have been sorted out via warranty, might be worth looking for one. But once the niggles are sorted it will be a stellar car, but buying a 10 year old vehicle is always going to give you some problems to iron out before its how you want it, given yours is on the higher end of the scale.
Where did you get it? Private or BMW? If it were BMW they wouldn't have aloud the car to be sold in that condition.

It's a 9 year old car and that means it's getting old so I would expect some things to go wrong and/or need to be replaced tbh........I bought a 2003 albeit with 68K miles and know I'll have a few challenges along the way but that's why it was a cheap car.
I'd never have a Chevy, mostly bcos they're wrong hand drive (for the UK) and having lived in the US, build quality on domestic cars in my experience left a lot to be desired and was even outstripped by the Korean manufacturers!

Not the best place to come with a hate list mate - sorry to hear you have had problems, but you'd probably be best off selling it to someone who will love it and learn to deal with it's foibles. Good luck with your search for a Corvette - I hear they do straight lines really well :wink:

I guess all of the other (mainly) happy forum Z4 owners would mean that these problems are the exception rather than the rule!

Arn't Corvettes in America a bit like an Asshole, everybody has one. and when you put your finger on any body panel it bends like a $2 ho!!
