Hi, I need help please.
Iread all the posts about re-setting the airbag light after forgetting to disconnect the battery etc......Bought the B800 tool and thought it would work and I could clear the air-bag warning light but the plug on the B800 I bought does not fit into the ODB II socket under the dash. I never saw anyone had this problem before. I have the adapter for the 20 pin ODB under the bonnet but I can't find the socket. Is it possible that there is no 20 pin under bonnet socket on this model?
Can anyone help please?

If I am reading this right: the 20 pin is for pre obd plug cars

Your z4 is an obd car

Can you detach the 20 pin to reveal an obd type plug to connect to the port under the steering wheel?

The round 20 pin diagnostic socket on BMWs stopped being a thing over 25 years ago!

Look up INPA and an appropriate laptop lead.

Handhelds are perfectly OK if you don’t want to mess about with a laptop and, frankly, INPA does not have a friendly interface.
Creator 310+ is what I use (and definitely clears airbag lights - once you have remedied the problem) but there are others which are popular on the forum.

As far as I know the ODB under the dash is the only diagnostic port on an E85.

Thanks, I found the OBD port under the dash.....the problem is the B800 plug does not fit into the BMW socket! Any ideas welcome because no one else seems to have had the prob with the BMW OBD port / B800 plug matching. Maybe I bought the wrong B800???

[ref]saltpeter[/ref], whereabouts are you? I know it doesn't exactly solve your problem, but there may be someone nearby who can at least reset your airbag light for you?

Thanks, it should fit but it doesn't even engage. I never heard of this problem before with the B800/E85 2003 Z4. I'll take a pic. of the socket under the dash.

The B800 tool should have the 16pin OBD2 plug on it, that should fit the 16pin OBD2 socket in the Z4, the round 20pin to 16pin cable changer is only for use on old Z3 versions with the 20pin socket in the engine bay. Check your socket hasn't got damaged and stopping the 16pin plug engaging.
The Creator 310+ obd2 scanner works great on Airbag faults, use mine all the time its quicker than breaking out the laptop with INPA and BMW Scanner 1.4 that I run.

I wonder if a previous owner has done something to the socket to prevent connectors going in after all the problems with driveway thefts where people managed to get access to the obd socket (tho that was only Start button cars)?

Or has part of the lid broken off on in the socket?

Or the OP doesn't realise there's a lid (you never know!)?

Thanks everyone but attached are 2 pics. 1) the B800 plug and 2) the OBD socket under the dash. They are different shape and will not engage. My problem is I don't know if it id a problem with the my Z4 E85 OBD socket being ''unusual'' or the B800 plug! No one else seems to have had this problem and I am at a loss for a solution.

That's what is strange, no one else had this problem. Yours looks the same as mine but.........they do not fit together.
Really daft question, but have you tried turning it round? It only fits one way.

Hi, thanks but I tried everything, the plug and socket just do not engage. I'll try again.....it's really frustrating to have this problem!

Well, I just tried it again and no matter how much pushing and wiggling the B800 plug will not go into the OBD socket on my car. What to do next? I don't want to buy another B800 and find I have the same problem. The pics by Rockhopper look as if the plug and socket are the same as mine but still no joy!

Only thing I can see is that the top left pin on your photo looks like it is slightly bent outwards?
No idea if that would be enough to stop it?
