2003 2.5-3.0

Hi Folks,
I intend on buying either model in the next few weeks, my budget will be around 2003-2004 and indications from classifieds point at mileages of around 75-90K.

Is there anything specific I should check for or investigate on cars of such mileage? Are these cars a possibly money pit at this type mileage, regardless of proper maintenance? Are they indeed still a good buy at that mileage and how long typically do they last mileage wise?

Thanks.

2.5 and 3.0 basically the same engines and both are bullet proof ,90k miles it's nothing for them , look around how may e46/39 whit 150k miles and still running strong

Thanks for the reply, sounds good!

I like to do a fair bit of my own maintenance re oils changes etc, are these cars set up in such a way that only dealers can knock off service illumination on the dash?

Are there any common probs, leaking hoods etc?
Cheers.

There is a comprehensive buying guide on here ,just do a search.
Go for a 3.0 as they have more kit as STD.

£4500 tops. I usually always go for the fastest of what ever I'm buying, but 90% of my driving is now city, so a 2.5 is plenty plus I have a full power ZX12r for my needs for speed

Is the stereo equipment of high standard? That's about the only thing I'd modify if it isn't, saying as I'm getting on for being an old fart now haha

£4500 isn't going to get you much in the 3.0 market

I would muster another £1k then come back in the winter for a bargin

I agree. You'll end up with something costing a fortune to get right or a shabby example.. If you find anything with 3.0l to begin with. Up the budget to 6k and you'll be able to exercise your pickyness a little more.

Dunno lads, I've seen afew '03 model 2.5's and 3.0's between 4500-5000 from dealers, that look decent in close up pics, and could be bartered down.

Obviously they could be a diff story on viewing but one in particular has very detailed close up pics and looks good, it's at 87K miles though.

i would go black whit red sport seats :D They look fine to me ,just pick the one you like and go to see/test drive.

88k on the clock but as the many threads on here will say, that's nothing for the 3.0ltr engine - a few on here have gone beyond 150k and one having done 200k before it was rear ended

Many will be looking enviously over those rare sports seats

Missing xenon (can retrofit) and satnav (although its a little dated) also factor in clear headlights etc, but that's down to personal taste and whether you like to personalise your cars

£5k is a good price, but note the £260 road tax runs out next month, also find out when inspection II is due

Yeah, prob for me is I'll be coming over from Dublin, so it's a bit of a risk if someone wasn't honest about the car with me, they'd have a very pissed off 16st powerlifter on their hands

Not really worried about xenons, had a bad experience with 'em on a Fireblade, they run at way too high a temp and cause wires to get brittle and burn out through time.

Is the satnav as crap as Clarkson points out on other beemers?
