20 years......

Indeed, a fantastic & gifted driver taken from us way before he was due.

Lets also not forget Roland Ratzenburger who also died the same weekend, we'll never know how good he could have been.

Seriously cant believe it was 20 years ago though.
 
+1 on all comments great guy Ayrton. Ratzenberger looked promising. Such a tragic weekend we could have lost a 3rd with Barrichello who's accident looked far worse than Ayrtons possibly even Rolland's.
 
Whilst Senna's achievements (& probably racing talents) were much greater, we mustn't forget that Ratzenberger also died that weekend. From what I've read about it, Senna cared deeply that Ratzenberger was killed. I hope he doesn't get forgotten - whilst Senna's greatness is being remembered.

Just my thoughts on it.
 
It was an awful weekend indeed, it was one thing after another, Barrichello crash in practice, then Ratzenberger accident on the Saturday. Then that horrible impact on the start grid when tyres went over the barrier injuring spectators. I remember sitting there thinking the race should be aborted :(
 
and not just the drivers, many marshalls have also paid the ultimate price.

remember where I was when Senna had the accident, was hard to watch.
 
I've been looking for this thread, didn't want to start a new one.

The day that changed F1 forever. Many a happy Sunday was spent watching Ayrton do his magic.

1993 a superb season in a car 80bhp down on power. That car wasn't capable of winning races, yet Senna won 5. Donnington was simply superb.

F1 was never the same. And whilst its great that safety has improved, a lot of the changes have killed much of real racing that there used to be....

I think the Lauda and Senna accidents brought much needed safety improvements. In my opinion though, all the rules and regs changes designed to make it more spectator friendly have done the opposite and stifled innovation as well. By all means have engine limitations on HP, but let's see F1 go back to being the cutting edge of Motorsport and the teams free to innovate. Let's see the creativity that brought us the 6 wheeler cars :)
 
In my humble opinion, two of the best looking F1 ever made, before planks were mandated under the cars and front wing end plates were raised etc.
