It occurred to me looking at the current fleet that some turn 20 this year (march and may for my 03 cars)

I wondered if there are any Jan 03 build cars that have now turned 20?

A milestone for these great cars- here’s to many more (and not being broken up and sent to china to become toasters!)

That's great! Means they can now be called a 'classic' on eBay, so the values will climb immeasurably. Licence to print money Stuart.

My E89 is 10 years old in March. I've never owned a car that old before!

I heard somewhere that if your 20 year old car is a second car with another car in the household, some insurance companies will treat it as classic and on cheaper insurance.

I did hesitate before putting the topic up, quoting 18/20 year old ownership may get picked up in gchq etc

You are going straight to hell for the 10 years thing

My renewal letter came through the door on the 20th December and was literally half price from the previous year. I did phone up to too see why to make sure nothing was missing from the previous year policy and all was the same. I have a 54 plate.

It's amazing how good the bodywork and paint is on these "classic" cars.
My first Mini had rusted away and was in the scrapyard at 12 years old (born 1974, died 1986).

My Z4 will be 20 years old on the 29th May this year and she's in fantastic shape considering  For her birthday I'm going to treat the old girl to a full rear suspension and subframe restoration...when I can find the time

This year, our Mini One R50 and E85 BMW Z4 will all turn 20 years, and funny, our Piaggio Vespa GT200 will also turn 20. Apparently everything on wheels (beside mountain bike) is from 2003.

A magical year? :)

p.s. Zed will be treated with full service

Yep, she's looking good

Gone are the days where cars used to be rust buckets at only 10-12 years old,lol
Cars at only 6 years old, like Austin's,Fords,Vauxhall's all used to suffer with bad rust from only 4 or 5 years old, with wings, wheel arches ,side sills and boot lids all rusting to pieces within 10 years or so, haha.

Thankfully things have improved since the 80s

I've never kept a car more than 6/7 years, before my current z4, my previous z4 being the second longest car I've owned out with my z4m.
Usually only keep them a 2-3 years

Long live the Combustion engine
(Although sadly it's days are numbered in new cars,it should last until I am no longer driving)

Stuart, I think the oldest/first registered z4 on the Forum was registered on a 52 reg,as it came over from America, and had been a very early registered example.
It belongs to Matt (Aboues , who's had it all these years, and still does

I often wondered if there were any 52 plate z4

Good to know

Just for context, my BSA Scout soft top (first ever production front wheel drive car) is 85 years old this year. My S1 landrover is a youngster at 69 years old! Even my westfield is now over 30 years old...

Driving the Zed is just like a brand new car!

I think all our Z's electronics will give out before any of the mechanical bits..

Perhaps @ChrisKnottIns can give us insight on any opportunities this 20 year milestone might present for insurance options?
