20" Wheels without rubbing

Hi guys

I was hoping to fit a set of these to the Z4, they are 20" and I was wondering if they would fit without rubbing etc, is the offset on these ok for the Z4? I don't want the wheels to stick out beyond the wings, prefer for them to sit inside if that makes sense, if the 20" are a problem will the 19" be ok, I am thinking about lowering the cars also on eibach lowering springs.

Don't quote me but I think someone said they do fit when I asked about wheels. But I was told 19 is as big to go because they will be back breakingly harsh any larger. Hopefully someone will give you a more worth while answer,

What are the specs of your current wheels?

You can calculate your clearances from there with an online calculator.

This also allows you to play with different tyre profiles to see what specs you'll need.

A friend of mine has 20 inch wheels on his 35is, looks really sweet and not that harsh

I think the best thing to do is see a set of 20" wheels next to the car, I don't want the wheels to take over the car if that makes sense. It would be an expensive mistake to order them online and then regret it.

There was a guy on here from Ireland with a red e89 that had 20's on it. I do seem to recall he had to modify the arches due to the rubbing though and I don't think it was lowered!?

After looking at both cars with 20" wheels the funny thing is the red one looks like the wheels are far too big for the car, however, the silver one above, the wheels look fine, I know I will have to factor the cost of tyres and good 20" tyres are not cheap, still debating, but will have a look at both 19" and 20". Thanks for all your help guys.

Long term plans are 19" or 20" new wheels, lowering the ride a bit so the arch gap isn't that bad and then a big brake kit, maybe the BMW Performance brakes. Oh and a SmartTop module ;)

i had 20s on mine and speaking from experience, the arch gap wasnt too bad but yeah could do with being lowered. i think mine were 20x8.5 all round, 32 et front and 42 rear. 265/35 rear and 235/35 front. the ride was hardly any different to the 19s

For 20" wheels and those tyre sizes the ride wouldn't be worse as the rear tyres have a larger sidewall than the 19" tyres. You've increased the rolling diameter on the rear by 2 inches so the car will sit an inch higher off the ground (and the sidewall will be 1/2 inch higher).

Did they not rub as that is a big change?

(Front diameter increase was 1inch so sidewall height is unchanged but car sits 1/2 inch higher)

no rubbing whatsoever. you have to get the front offsets right as they need to clear the suspension arms but once you are clear of those, the arches accommodate the wheels very well. not so sure what would happen if it was lowered though

as for ride height, i didnt notice any difference whilst driving as my seats can be lowered and raised electronically so i was messing with the settings of those anyway once i got the car back from the people who fitted the wheels
