Having thoughts about changing the M. Very early thoughts. Recently bought the missus a new car so I no longer require the comfort and usability that the M provides and could perhaps go something a bit more driver focussed. I have been looking at lotus offerings but other than the Exige S and Elise SC, both of which are priced above my budget, none of them tickle my fancy. I couldn't have something that is much slower in a straight line than the M. I know this topic has probably been done to death, but where exactly do you go from a Z4M without spending massive amounts more?

I know it's shallow. I know it's ridiculous. But I could never own a Vauxhall V220 for one stupid reason.

Vauxhall.

Are you planning track days? For driver focused you can't look any further than either a Lotus or Caterham. Both easily within your budget. Same for me re VX220 however the turbo can be wound up nicely with a few mods to make it a serious weapon. Rarer than the other two as well. The good bit is none of those three will lose much money come resale.

Do you have a bike licence? considered one? BMW s1000rr. :D

The M is better than any car mentioned. Very Very difficult to replace, as beedub says a few mods and its a very capable car… so much so its only a couple of seconds slower round the ring than a standard MK1 Lambo gallardo.

Also top gear track records… .3 second slower

But its also in a tough crowd now, at current prices a decent one is between 20-22k I would have a Cayman over one as they are cheaper and overall a better car although less fun to drive and not as good looking and I've owned an M and fancy something else.

i purchased my elise when it was 4 years old, smoked around in it for two & a half years and then sold it for more than i paid for it
Im glad i owned one & on the whole i did enjoy it, but i wouldnt have another one, they are too single minded for me.
regards

I owned a VX220 great car really fun to drive. I would never buy another one purely because how weak they are. My 2 cents. :driving:

A quick Caterham, TVR or Lotus is where I would be looking, I really like the Cayman S but every time I read about it everyone says it needs more power and the new Cayman GT4 certainly looks appealing and it a bit quicker but obviously out of the price range!

I remember reading about the VX220 Turbo when it first came out and I think it was pretty much the quickest car on sale for the money at the time and I have always liked them, I have never owned a Vauxhall(loads of fords though) and I have always fancied a VX220.
