2 years to go...?

Ok, given that the E85 had a 6 year life-cycle (2003...2009), does this mean we'll see the next generation Z4 in just under 2 years (i.e. 2015)? :?

Has anyone heard any rumours about a likely replacment...?

Hmmm I reckon they will have to update it to compete with the likes of the Merc SLK and Boxster.

Although, if Audi come up with a stunning Mk3 TT, I would quickly jump ship! :D

They are bringing out a Z2 I think which will probably be the replacement for a bit.

It's going to be front and 4 wheel drive so looks like they are going for the TT!!

Have you got a link for any rumours zeld?

No but I think I read about it in autocar.
It's going to share the same platform and engines as third generation Mini.

A Z2 wont replace the Z4, it will be like the 1 series to the 3 series. The more budget entry level car to compete with the likes of the MX5.

If BMW make another Z4 it will need to go back to the original recipe if I were to buy one and bring out an M model. Wouldn't be interested in any of the others.

So with that in mind my next car wont be a new Z4 because its asking too much.

Completely agree.

I thought that's what the latest 1.8 zed was meant to compete with . :?

Thats all I could find for now

Yep 2 years will be right. Will mean keeping my latest one now and pick up the new shape 15 plate late 2016, by then the prices will settle.

Why do you say that? ie poor and flop.

A sales flop. If you scroll down to page 25 of the attached 2012 Annual Report you'll see what I mean. Only 15k Zeds sold worldwide (-18.9% vs LYR) set against 11.6% growth across BMW cars overall. 18k sales in the previous year was dire enough! They got their market positioning wrong with this car. It alienated more existing Z4 owners than it attracted lapsed/new owners.

The Z3 was considered too feminine hence the "masculinisation" to the (E85) Z4.
I'm not sure where the thought process went from E85 to E89. I like our E89 very much but it's not the "sports" car which purists may desire and I think this is its (market) weakness.

I can't see a Z2 model being introduced to be honest. Would that not be too close to the MINI Roadster?

I reckon we might start to see something in about a years time - maybe more of an evolution from the current model?

Spot on

Can't speak for the coupe but the original Z4 was a dreadful car that rode like a skateboard. If that's what purists want they can keep it. New Zed Is more of a tourer and everyday quality car which is why I bought it.
There seem to be more on the road than Boxsters so the amount of sales would seem right. Maybe they just over estimated supply in the first place?

Plus there is the 1series coupe and convertible along with the 3series metal top convertible to tempt new Z4 buyers that the original didn't have to contend the with?
