Not quite true Tom about the 986 and 987 being the same, the 987.2 had all new engines with more power that did away with the bore score and ims issues, the 987.1 obviously did not which is why there is a big price difference between the gen 1 and gen 2 987.

That said the 981 platform especially in boxster format are a much nicer looking car and IF i stay in this cayman for a few years a 981 boxster S will be after that. Or an f type.. or perhaps a g29 z4

Sorry, I was meaning the gen 1 as we were talking about a 3.2 pre 06 which is the version I had and is the cheaper tax bracket.

There are still big price differences between 987.1 can pay 10k up to nearly 20k for a decent one even with similar milage as you can spend 6-10k putting them in sellable condition.

I chose the 35i over a Cayman because it was for what I wanted a better all round road car. The Cayman obviously be a better track car but I’ve another toy for competition use. Of your choices the F type appeals more

Agreed. I have heard them described as bloody unreliable, though. My sister had an XKR once that came with a 'live in' AA man.

My short list was a brand new Z4 or second hand Jag F Type and a couple of weeks lurking on the F Type forum showed me that the Beemer was the way to go for a reliable daily driver

Upgrade to a 911? Much bigger inside with the 4 seats and you can actually recline the backrest properly unlike in the Cayman which I sat in a few weeks back which has a box right behind the seats.
