2 Min fix for fuel smell, fluffy idle and fault codes

My fuel cap seal was cracked and flagged as an advisory on it's recent MOT. Funnily enough I had recently smelt an occasional waft of fuel in the garage, but with several cars bikes and mowers in there I hadn't pinned it down. It took two minutes to replace the seal (£5 from ebay or £10 OEM) and is a cheap and easy fix for fuel smells/leaks also potentially fluffy idling and EVAP fault codes P0455 P0456 P0440 P0442, so is worth checking as our cars get older and modern fuel attacks rubber seals.

A candidate for a regular coating of Gumi pflege to keep it supple.

Good timing, I've just done this myself. Last time I filled up I noticed the o-ring was cracking. Also I've occasionally caught a faint smell of petrol when the car is parked so hopefully this will solve it. No other symptoms.
Went for a non original replacement from ebay. The design of the o-ring is slightly different to the OEM but fits well and should do the same job. Easy to fit.

I see you can get a replacement seal on ebay here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z4-Series-Petrol-Fuel-Filler-Tank-Cap-Rubber-Nitrile-Seal/254250516246?fits=Car+Make%3ABMW%7CModel%3AZ4&hash=item3b3282ff16:g:yG8AAOSwSvVdLMIS
