Hi guys,

Anyone got any recommendations for short term temporary cover?

Seems to be alot out there- just need to insure the Z for 2-3 hours.

It's taxed and had an MOT.

My current insurance will do a month as a second car but not a day etc.

Easiest way I have found has actually been to take out car insurance and then cancel it later that day.

Or, if you have car insurance, add the car to your policy and then cancel it.

I should say for both of these, you pay for a year. But you cancel and get refunded. Sometimes there’s a £25 fee for doing so but that is usually less than temp insurance

Never heard of anyone getting car insurance for a couple of hours.

Cheers mate. Hadn't thought of that.

I was more after recommendations from people that have used one of the many companies out there that offer it rather than going in blind.

Cheers,

Seems to be under 25 quid for taking out a couple of hours policy.

I used a company called ‘tempcover’ to insure a motorbike I had in my garage for a while and needed to take it for an MOT before I could sell it. Pretty straight forward to set up if I remember correctly and was around that figure or maybe slightly less

Cheers mate. Were you happy with them? Alot of them seem to have apps. I tried googling to find a forum somewhere where people have commented on them but all it was was wall to wall adverts for them.

I am not sure if my "driving other cars" on my current insurance covers me for driving the Z. I worked in Insurance 15 years ago and I have a funny feeling that the car needs to be insured elsewhere for the driving other cars to be legal.

For the sake of 15-20 quid it's not worth the risk.

Yes I just did it online and that was that. I am going back a couple of years now so things may have changed but I’m sure it was pretty easy. I still get texts through every now and then offering discounts but I’ve only needed to use their services that once. For the peace of mind £20/£25 is a small price to pay for a couple hours.

They look decent tbf. Loads of good trust pilot reviews and seem well established.

I appreciate it. I will use them- there seemed to be alot out there and I wanted to use one that had some recommendations and had been about for a while.

I see - I assumed you had looked at the temp cover insurers (e.g. Cuvva) as others have mentioned but that it didn’t suit. In my case, they refused to insure (I was 27 at the time, z4 coupe).

Cheers guys,
3 hours cover:
Cuvva 24 quid
Temp cover 48 quid
The other two mentioned on the link sludge were day cover and to high an insurance group.

I appreciate the recommendations
