2.5si to 3.0si

Hi i'm new to the Z4, i heard that i could upgrade my engine from 2.5si to 3.0si, by changing some parts (crank, pistons etc)
if that is true i want to know what parts exactly i have to change ? thanks

Think you would need a new block among other parts as well. Either way not worth the hassle even sticking a 3.0si donor engine in as the difference 40ish bhp is neither here or there with good driving techniques.

Someone know something about this?

Just look at realoem.com, block is different.

2.5si

3.0si

Best to just upgrade to and ///M as it will be cheaper (unless local taxation is an issue).

I looked into this when I first got mine. Sounds like it would be more expensive than selling and buying a (probably higher spec'd) 3.0si and possibly even an M, which would make it a bit of a silly decision unless you have the kit and knowledge to do engine rebuilds for fun. The 2.5si is a glorious engine in its own right.

Spend the money on fuel for hooning and/or driver coaching. :driving:

Same goes for 2.5 to a 3.0? Not si models

It would only not apply if like on the 5 series where a 525d is actually a de tuned 3.0 or lie my 118d that is just a detuned 120d

What? Sorry English is not My language :(
BMW will put the exact same engine in a range of different badge designations, the only difference is the programming of the engine control module. The programming prevents the engine from utilising its full potential output. This is what is meant by "de tuned." In some cases a different intake manifold is also fitted so a simple re-programming is not enough to upgrade the engine to a more powerful version.

I hope you can make sense of this, as English is my only language. When I first heard of this, I also asked "What?" :headbang:

So what about the 2.5i and 3.0i? 2.5i cant be a detuned 3.0i right?

No, you would need a new engine, block and virtually all components will be different.
