Listened to the first post and it definitely wasn't as loud as that, although it depends how loud I turn the volume up.. :lol:

I'm looking to take out the BMW insured warranty on the car I buy but a friend in BMW has just informed me that if I do they will insist on an inspection to the standard of approved used at a dealer at my cost :o before any cover commences and that any faults uncovered then I will have to get repaired at the dealer. I might get lucky with the private sale or it could be costly.. :( Was also informed that the BMW insured warranty sale people neglect to tell customers this when offering or arranging cover :thumbsdown:

TBH in the two years I had my car after having the head done it was 100% perfect, and only sold because I wanted an ///M.

I really don't know how bad a problem this is going to be in the future, but it is off putting when buying if you don't have a BMW warranty.

However there is nothing to stop you putting a BMW warranty on the car at a later date as far as I'm aware :wink:
 
I have a 2008 coupe 3.0si sport with 30K miles, have owned it 11 months, got the dreaded ticking (coincidentally as mentioned earlier in this topic) 2 days after having inspection and oil service by same dealer. They immediately took it back, kept it over night, confirmed the ticking noise and yesterday replaced all valve lifters. Thankfully with one month warranty left, the 2 grand bill is covered by BMW themselves. However, they made no mention of the modified cylinder head with the non - return valve mentioned at the start of this post. Should I have pushed for this, or will replacement of the lifters be enough? I assume that whatever caused the problem with the original lifters can cause the same problem with the new set, to me they have replaced the worn parts without addressing the cause of the wear.
Surely, if there is a modified head it should be fitted. The dealer did go thro the PUMA process.
 
I would suggest you keep up the warranty as what they have done won't necessarily have fixed the problem, and the guarantee you have will expire with your warrantee.

If the problem does come back then I believe they will change the head.

Balls... unlucky Taz, have you been back to BMW about it? I guess it's time to push for the head replacement?
