2.5 v 3.0

JUST taken delivery of a 2008 3.0si Sport Manual (261bhp) to replace my 2003 2.5 SE Auto (192bhp) with 17" wheels, which I'd had for almost 4 years.

First impressions WOW!

Smashing engine sound, loads of power and torque, delightful gearbox, better ride - although firmer, it's more stable, more comfortable seats, seems more economical - but I've only driven 40 miles so far.

Insurance is only £50 more - but I'm an old fart living in the country.

I'll update the photo soon!

I think it also depends alot on what you want from the car. Mine is an every day comute car, mainly driving in a city during week days. I neverdo more then 30-40mph (often sticking to 33mph as I cant afford to loose my license), get 25mpg, tight junctions are difficult, and always worry about it when I park up (often goto deprived area as part of my work). Not to mention slunted car park that makes limbo dancing out of the car even more of a challange. So during week I feel like a poser who bought the car to look pretty (and often I get local chavs in their fiesta going quicker then me giving me a look "your car is slow innit").

Dont need 261bph to do that! Its a completely different car when I get a chance to go on a spirited run though  and I still get a smile on my face everytime I turn the ignition - even if it means 5min ride to see a client. That makes it all the while me thinks

I will be putting my 3.0 up for sale very very soon, so if you're after a stunning black 3.0 Z4... you might be in luck.

Sad times, but its now or never to sell up and get a superbike for this summer

Gotta love that 3.0 Si!

has anyone seen this yet? Look like a sound car, love the red against the sterling grey.........

Think it was on PH too.

However, I wouldn't want a 2.5 with an auto - it uses the same auto box as the 3.0 but lacks the torque. Whereas I think the manual 2.5 gets along by having a gearbox that works well with that engine (I'm talking about pre-facelifts here). IMO!

A fine set of wheels for sure.

Yes - agree that the red and Sterling is a great combo, but I'm biased :)

Problems I see with that car is the auto on a 2.5 that's not the best combo, the nav system is the unloved version and the interior plastic is a grey that was deleted early on and replaced with black that works much better.

Elipsoids - a great wheel and they were the OEM's on mine, bu tupgraded to the best looking if hardest to maintain 108's

never knew that about the grey interior change...

I only saw it when Herminator dropped by one day and we could compare Sterling and Black exteriors both with red interiors and noticed the grey plastic throughout on his version

Yeah, the grey put me off a nice spec red seat M-sported car I was looking at getting.

Now I have red and black though, it really is the best combo. Black on black looks really depressing now :)

Slightly off topic but what are the chances of getting a set of red M sport seats, and how much?
Or is there more chance of pi$$ing in the Queens handbag.? :tumbleweed:

Probably not too bad, just keep your eyes peeled!

I think a few years ago it would have been harder, but since they became standard kit in any facelift Z4 Si model, and also all the M cars, and their values dropping, the chances of getting total loss damaged cars being broken for parts is much bigger, so chances are more will appear... bad for Z4's that are crashed :( Good for owners who fancy an upgrade :D

Thanks Dave, Will do, just spotted a black pair on pistonheads for £995 so they are obviously out there...oh no I see another obsession coming on!

Well Dave and I have both found, converted to electric and fitted them. Not tried to get near the queen lately so difficult to say which is harder, but I supsect it's a close run thing unless your smart and quick

How much of a write up do you need to undo a seatbelt clip, 4 torx bolts and a harness connector, all while keeping the ignition off?
Worry about the search first, then fitting :)

Proberly sounds really harsh but to me the 2.5 is a pointless engine...

It's proberly worse on petrol but even if it's the same as the 3.0 it's not worth it..
Weigth is the same?
Less of everything...
Sligthly cheaper road tax
Sligth cheaper insurance...
Alot less stanard spec.
20% less BHP...torque ...

ONLY reason i would buy one is if it was simply alot cheaper ...say my car..if it was the exact same car but with the 2.5 i would want it to be atleast £1000 Cheaper... to atleast consider it,But the M54 3.0 is one of the reasons i went for the z4 so it would kinda be defying the point :P
