Hello,
Does the 2.5 si Sport, have the lower, firmer suspension, or is it the same as an SE model 2.5?

Cheers

Hi, the sport will have the M suspension (lower/harder) and not the taller/softer SE suspension set up

Thank you Rob and Martin,
It's getting to be confusing. I'm looking for a 2.5 Automatic (plus sport shift/button option) with the softer SE suspension. As I understand it, the 2.5 si, comes with the sports interior and 17" wheels as standard, Martin, you say that you do not have the harder M sport suspension on your car, was the softer suspension a build option?

To make it even more confusing, the pre facelift 3.0 only came in SE though could be spec’d with M sport suspension, just like my old SE.

There’s a BMW link somewhere (google is your friend) which allows you to enter your VIN & download all the options/specs your car left the factory with

Thanks Jembo, so it is possible to get a 3.0 SE, without M sport suspension and the higher, softer ride ?

not quite correct.

2.5si Sport came with 18" wheels and sports suspension as standard
2.5Si SE came with 17" wheels and standard suspension.

You could could spec sports suspension delete on the Sport though and spec 18" wheels and sports suspension on the SE.

Bought the car in Germany last year. They dont have SE or Sport versions.
Mine is with the softer suspension, but with almost all extras.
ANYWAY, the Bilstein/Eibach compo gave much better comfort, ride, and looks😎, than the supposed softer factory setup.
I know exactly why you are confused 😉

Thanks everyone.

Looks as if my best plan is to search each VIN for the individual spec. The Z4 I'm looking for, just became a touch more rare.

I would forget what suspension the car has and just look for a well looked after Auto which should be your main priority.
The suspension will be pretty much worn out and will need to be sorted and you can then choose what setup you prefer. Mine had SE suspension and I have changed to eibach, the bmw rear springs are prone to cracking. I find eibach have a good ride quality except when you hit an almighty pothole! Don't forget springs sag over time and this will harden the ride, so if you want a soft ride you will need to replace with new suplex springs.
Sometime soon when there is a dry spell, I will be fitting Bilstein B4's to replace completely worn out original sachs dampers, which have only done 50k miles. I can guarantee the dampers will be shot on whatever you buy unless they have been replaced with B4's.
You might strike lucky and find an auto with the suspension already sorted but I think you will be waiting a long time to find that. Find a good auto, ask the buyer if the suspension has been renewed, if not use it as a lever to get the car cheaper and spend the money saved on doing the suspension. Haggle hard!
