Just a quicky guys - how can I tell if a facelift 2006 2.5 has an Si engine or not? Seen an ad (no engine pictures), ad says 2.5 Si but doing a tax check, it comes up as 177bhp, not 215. I want to look at car tomorrow but want to know what I'm looking at/for first. Cheers, Kev

If it’s 177bhp it’s not an si, they produce 218bhp.

Yeah I know what the figures are Rob but I've never driven one, so how can I tell just by looking at it?

Forgot to add, it's a 6 speed. Can you get NON si 2.5 engines with a 6 speed?

That was only the early 2.5se that had 5spd boxes

The wing badges if not deleted or changed should dictate 2.5i or 2.5si.

Looks like just 2.5i badges - but they could have been changed/painted sometime. Do you know if all Si's had sport button?
This one doesnt look like it has :|

The si has a sport button, it’s not an si by the sounds of it.

I just had a quick look at my brochure and it lists the Sport button as one of the additional features the 2.5Si had that the 2.5i didn't.

It's possible the red-line might be different too, as the 2.5i is claimed to make maximum power at 5,800rpm whereas it's 6,500rpm for the 2.5Si. The red-line for an Si will be 7,000rpm.

ETA Beaten to it by Mr Bear!

Shame, but better to know before you waste a load of time going to view because from what I have read on here there is no easy way to get a facelift 2.5i up to 2.5Si power.

I think the plan was for the facelift 2.5i to replace the pre-facelift 2.2i, and the 2.5Si to replace the pre-facelift 2.5i.

Yes, can be hard to spot the differences between n52 2.5i and 2.5Si. The official differentiators would be the si badge (obviously) and sport button, but these can be fairly easily retrofitted by an unscrupulous seller.

The big difference under the hood is the inlet manifold, the Si has dual DISA whereas the ‘i’ just has single. I’ll see if I can find a picture on the web...
