Well.....deposit is down on the 2.5si......and im very excited now. I felt at 42k and on the 58 plate it was a better option that the 2.5i auto with 33k
Is there anyway i can find out about the car...eg power etc am i right in saying 58 plate would be the last of them

I was going to say the 36D could have been a BOBFOC so the 32A could be the better deal. :lol:

Always lots said about engine choice. . .
Of course folk will go for the 3 litre for the best returns re resale, desirability, standard equipment - does make sense but beyond that. . .
Doesn't matter that much on the road, depends what you want, they are all Zeds. . .
Those that enjoy their driving get the best out of the 2 litre and impress everyone with just what the 2 litre can do - I drive with Chesherman and he could always surprise people in his 2 litre. I also drive with Cherrym and he has the 2.5si (which I've driven and like a lot) - no problems at all on the road - then put him in front and see how he makes that go On a flat out dash on straight roads then yes but even then there's not a great deal in it. Extra safety for overtaking, the brakes and the engine noise led me to a 3.0si from the 2 litre and now I'm exploring the M version but I'd be happy to enjoy my 2 litre again and the 3.0si is a peach.

I think you'll find the 2.5si is a wonderfully enjoyable sports car and you'll have a sense of occasion every time you drive it.

I loved my z4...but for whatever reason, i drove the 2.5 one day and was hooked by the sound and better level of equipment in that car. Now ive made the jump after having the 2.0 for 2yrs, i cant wait.
My current car has newly refurbed elipsoids with brand new goodyear f1s on it. So ive negotiated keeping these to put on the si and he can keep the mv2s with runflats to put on mine......can anyone tell me if this is a good move or should i take the mv2s

Its worth the swap just to get rid of the run-flats, plus you get to keep your new F1s
MV2s are a nice wheel, but so are elipsoids so I'd do the swap.

I would do the swap as well. Goodyear non runflat tyres, freshly refurbed Ellipsoid 107s are my favourite e85 wheel and you don't see too many facelifts with them on so will look a bit different from the pack. All in good move! Whether it's a 2.2, 2.5 or 3.0 the extra smoothness of a i6 bmw engine will win you over. The 4 pot was never great in this respect.

Id just carbon dipped the dash panel as well...bugger.... which looks stunning, so the new owner of my 2.0 will get a treat.
Unless i can find a second hand one quick to replace it with...

I chose the 2.5 because I don't do much long distance. Mainly drive 10-50miles. Longest journeys average 100 miles. I don't often break speed limits; when I do I find I have enough power. Mine sits at 3,ooo rpm at 70 in 5th. I don't race cars from traffic lights, don't drift in Tesco car parks, don't need fast getaways from bank jobs and have never tracked the car.

I intend to go to The Ring this year just to open the car up and have some fun, me against me. I was going to supercharge it, but after a 'toying' with the idea for a few months I've decided against it. We all approach our cars with different attitudes along with different expectations. But whatever we settle for I'm sure gives us the same pleasures. Find the car that suits your needs. The z is fun to drive, looks good (well some models do, again preferences :wink: ) and 2nd hand gives great bang for your buck (providing you don't buy a lemon). I would've bought a 3.0 if I'd been long distancing weekly, less strain on the car in 6th gear. Not that 3,ooo rpm is straining a 2.5 at 70.
I don't regret the 2.5, it's still a fair lump for the tiny car. Let's face it, I'm driving a 2.5 someone else is in a 3.0 on the same stretch of road, neither are going faster than 70.

The 3.0 is the better car and is noticeably quicker and stops quicker (bigger brakes) which is obviously why BMW made it along side the 2.5 variants etc.

I'm sure the guy in the 3.0si coupe I used to follow when I had my 2.5si would disagree with you.
Didn't matter which one of us was in front, the other person could never get away.

Day to day there is not much in it.

OP, find the car you like based on your selection criteria, and take both for a spin, then you can make an informed decision.

Day to day your probably right, but its impossible to say definitively as you don't know how good a driver he was and was he pushing as hard as you. As a general rule if the manufacturer makes 2 models its because there's a noticeable difference between the two, otherwise why bother? Unless of course your Rob (Smartbear) who cant tell if he's got a 18i or 20i E89
Do agree about testing different cars and seeing what matters most to you. To some its power, others the toys, others again the colour. At the end of the day I think most E85's on the road are 2.0 and I'm sure most of there owners are pretty happy with them. Then on the other hand there are the M owners who would be bored in a 2.0 and would rather have a "flimper spec" M than a fully loaded 2.0/2.5/3.0. Each to there own and all that!

Your right, I didn't know! Sold to me as an 18i & only driven in isolation-In my defence I'd never driven either model previous to choosing my car so didn't have a yardstick to compare to.
Never driven it flat out either, I've given it a bit of stick and it felt ok so never thought anymore about it
