2.5 months on in the new business

Some might remember that a few months ago I was made redundant under dubious circumstances after having a disagreement with the MD after 22 years of near perfect service.

I considered what to do and decided that i would set up in business for myself and see how it went.

The business is basically the track side hire of onboard video and data systems sold by Racelogic in the UK.

All the systems that I rent out are 4 camera Video Vbox Pro Systems which generally run with 2 cameras unless clients want to pay the extra.

We have attended 13 events now from Silverstone days run by GoldTrack and RMA to Club days run by The Ferrari Owners Club and the Porsche Club GB.

I have put a selection of videos in the thread so that you can see the diversity to the cars these are now being installed in. Recently we even hired a 4 camera system to a police force!

Last week I was asked to put the systems in 5 of the 6 brand new Chevron GR8 race cars which took to the grid at SIlverstone last weekend. This was the first brand new model to take to the grid from Chevron in nearly 40 years. The great bit is that where the drivers have not invested in a full on data logging system this is perfect as it conjoins video with synchronised data. Race drivers can review their laps with their driving coach (go figure) and improve lines, breaking points, turn in and exit.

The next bit i want to conquer is the postal hire service, where people might want a system to use on a german road trip or something. the stumbling block at the moment attears to be the deposit and the creditcard and delivery charges (you get charged 1.5% on the £1,800 deposit ad £45 odd for the insured delivery. I'm sure I'll find a happ medium.

enjoy the Videos.

Dario, have you thought of trying to hire cameras to private pilots? Quite often people take handheld video cameras flying but the results are never very good. Just a thought.

Good stuff!

What about bikes on track days - obviously things have a habit of being dropped so you would need to consider that! :o

Being nosey - how much is a rental. Reason I ask is a friend of mine is putting finishing touches to a new track car that he will be marketing. His approach to marketing is to take it to loads of track days and thrap round trouncing all the expensive kit whilst videoing it all for future website construction (which I get to do :? ). Currently he doesn't have any recording gear

Cheers

dario, Just a thought. I have attended a few of the Slowly Sideways events and lots of people love to video the rallying. The guys with the big sponsorship deals have there's all paid for but lots of privately owned cars don't have them. I am sure there would be interest from the owners if they could rent them for special events etc. The website is http://www.slowlysideways-gb.co.uk/ it has a large following and is getting more popular. Some people even sell there videos after the events!

I just watched the Anglia video, I'd definitely call that a close shave.. :(

Great vids by the way.

I never thought of that!

When i get the the track day / testing / racing market sorted i will move to bikes, but there is no reason what so ever that this couldent be a remote hire opportunity (by courier)

Thanks I'll look in to that :-)

yes bikes is an interesting market and you are right, the cameras are very vulnerable..... As i have said earlier it is somewhere i might go when the car market is full exploited.

I rent this gear out with 2 cameras on at a track day or test day i am attending for £60 per day + £25 for an 8GB USB. Not bad i think for a piece of pro kit that cost north of £2,500 + VAT retail.

Just look at my events being attended page to find out where we are.

I can also provide these via courier, but a big deposit is required and insured delivery is needed therefore to get it to you its £140.00 for 5 days.

Link is on my sig
