The 2.5 can be confusing, the pre-facelift 2.5 came in i or SE spec both with the same 189bhp M54 engine, the 2006 facelift has the N52 engine badged 2.5i which is less powerful at 175bhp or a more powerful 215 bhp 2.5 Si version. Sport versions got suspension and trim tweaks.

Being a 2006 2.5SE I assume it should be a pre-facelift (like mine) but if you want to check you can put the VIN number in to a decoder which will give you the original spec http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do

I thought all facelift 2.5 cars came with the 218hp engine (n52) & it was the earlier pre-facelift cars (m54) that came in a less powerful guise?

It's confusing for sure, and maybe why some with a facelift 2.5 think it's down on power? although with 0 -60 in 7.5 it's hardly dragging it's sorry ass
the facelift 2.5 comes in two flavours 2.5i at 174bhp six speed

The original 2.5 models were all 192 bhp but only 5 speed but I haven't really found that an issue.
