2.2 Strut Brace

Afternoon Folks

Have been looking for a front strut brace for the Zed for a little while now, mainly on eBay (don't judge). However I may have hit a small snag.

Most of the listings say they are not compatible with the 2.2 only 2.5/3.0 and those that do say they are compatible don't fill me with confidence. Spoken with a few sellers who were less than helpful just saying they didn't have any listed for the 2.2

Now here I am wondering does it really make a difference? Is there really a difference between a 2.2 and 2.5 that means a strut brace will fit one and not the other?

Any help is appreciated.

I believe it's something to do with the location of the oil filler cap. I could be wrong, but that's why the 3.0i brace isn't compatible with the 3.0si (I think).

The strut towers are all in the same place regardless of the model, so any E85/6 strut brace should fit your Z4.

All pre facelift 6 cylinder cars are M54 engine so no reason it wouldn't fit.

All post facelift 6 cylinder are N52 (except ///M) and the only issue as Ben said is the brace covering the filler cap, which is why many are fitted arse about face.

Nothing wrong with buying items on Ebay so no judgement. I got my Ultraracing Brace off ebay - best price I could find at the time and shipping plus the safety of paypal

Does your engine look near identical to mine? If it does then it should be the M54 series of motor (though mine is a 3.0) and there shouldn't be an issue fitting it as ben g mentioned the strut tower mounts are the same.



One reason why they might not list for the 2.2 is perhaps it's not as common? It actually doesn't exist here in Australia - we only have the 2.5 and 3.0 variants.

I'd say that's the only conceivable reason. Same with the 2.0 engine - as far as some (US) sites are concerned only the larger capacities exist.

It looks very similar yeah. Just a little smaller!



To be fair I think it must just be a matter of perspective. Looking at the photos posted in previous threads for this made me think my engine was sitting higher in the engine bay for some reason. Didn't make sense to me but figured I'd check in with the experts.

Doesn't an E46 strut brace fit the Z4? If so this will open up a wide range of different priced strut brace's.

2.2 here and I have the ultraracing brace on mine.... rear one too
