Hi all,,

New to the z4 club. Looking for tuning ideas for the 2.2 if anyone has experience or ideas.

Cheers

Cheers

I’m going to buy a 3.0si in around 18 months

Wondering about injectors, throttle bodies, recommended exhaust , mapping, chopping etc

The general consensus around any small engined NA is that tuning is really not worth it. Not just the Z4 but any car. You can throw money at it if you like but any gains will be negligeable and you wont get any of that money back when you come to sell the car in 18 months time.
If you want to spend money on it, spend it on tyres, brake pads and advanced driving tuition.

Ye I get that, there are cheap ways of doing things though using used parts. I can do the work myself as I used to be a mechanic. I’ve done some track driving tuition. I’ve already ordered better discs and pads. Three tyres are new so will replace with better tyres then. Looking at suspension. As well

And extra 20 horses would make quite a difference with the low kerb weight

Thanks for the input

As others have said…BMW pretty much got what they could out of their NA engines…you certainly can make more noise but 10% more go will be tough I think .. :tumbleweed:

You could drop a grand on this and get 15-20bhp increase (at peak levels much less across the range) and barely notice the change on the road
I would keep the money and put it towards getting a 3 litre in less than 18 months :D

I’d just leave it as is. The difference will then feel even better when you get the 3.0. To be fair I haven’t driven the 2.2 so not sure how it feels but I wouldn’t want any less than 3.0, even now I think it would be nice to have a bit more power.

Tbh it’s better than I thought! The power that is there is usable all the time. It’s not that it feels slow but looking to spend some money on it to sharpen it up.

Just asking for ideas from people who have done stuff.

I don’t think anyone has really bothered for all the reasons given above plus if you were prepared to throw the ££ at it you’d start with the 3.0 anyhow. Someone supercharged one once I think? That was a 3.0.
