2.0i remap - how much difference to the acceleration?

Lets face it, doing a remap is all about adding a little 'more' to the car. I have read a lot about people doing this mo on the 2.0 and certainly enjoying the improvement to performance but what is the real world impact... Sorry, dont want to sound too green there.. What difference does it make from standstill and also from say 50 to 70 mph?

My 20i auto was remapped to 281bhp and 450Nm, the difference in rapid overtaking (50 - 70mph) is night and day. The stock car had to be really wound up to make overtaking safe whereas the remapped car with the increased torque makes the overtaking move effortless. Car is totally transformed.

Whereabouts are you based? Somebody might be willing to take you for a spin if you’re nearby :?
You can imagine from the power curves posted above that the difference is more than subtle :driving:

I live in Margate, Kent if any modded 2.0i's are around.

Sorry for the blunt question... What sort of 0-60 times are people seeing?

Mine went from 'Hmmm' to 'Aaaagh!' after a remap.
I think you may be in the wrong forum for 0-60 times if I'm honest as we tend to drive the car rather than talk about it in a bar. :D
However, 40-60, 50-70, overtaking times, as already mentioned above, are close to halved as far as I can make out.
On my way home from the rolling road I was stuck behind 8 cars. Seeing a gap between numbers 4 and 5 I thought I'd nip up the queue a bit.
Just after thinking that, I found myself in front of all 8 and not even as far up the road as I expected to be after overtaking 4!

I understand about the question i posed. And being a relatively mature chap of 51 i am ashamed of myself!

Still, it does give a level of measure for the performance improvement and an idea mentally if i cannot secure a ride in a remapped car!

Fair enough. Thanks for not taking the hump. (From a less mature chap at 57  )
Personally I have never tried to get a 0-60 time as I'm not too keen on the stresses it applies for no real benefit.
I think others may have done though.
I can only use the analogy of overtaking acceleration and what they refer to as 'exposure time' on the wrong side of the road.
On mine the max torque is reached before 1500 rpm and stays as a flat line until 5500! It is more akin to thrust!

As you have an auto I would also take a look at Xhp flash for the gearbox as it can make a great difference https://www.xhpflashtool.com/

xHP not available for N20 E89 with ZF8HP

Not that it needs it..it’s the best box in an E89 by far

0-60 for an auto 20i remapped will be just over 5 secs if you want to abuse it..

More relevant is overtaking almost anything else is just a whole different ball game..whichever way you try it…comfort mode, sports mode etc..it really is night n day..

I totally get why you seek some sort of metric to evaluate a remap. It's not easy to visualise the scale of change you'll actually experience. Like others here, I'll add that you absolutely won't fail to notice a huge uplift in power... and especially torque which makes the car so much more pleasant to drive even when you aren't pushing it. If you have doubts, there are service providers around who will reverse the remap with no charge if you aren't happy. You will be though - it transforms the car.

It’s torque that pushes you back in the seat when you accelerate, a mapped 20i makes aprox 50% more torque than a standard car. That gives you more of an idea what difference it can make.
Whereabouts are you?

Hi guys, sorry for the absence.. Been out for a lovely Italian in Broadstairs. If you are ever down in sunny Thanet give Sardinia a try!

A couple of things..

I have a manual car (not auto) and have read that it may be best to find someone with a rolling road to tweak the remap down a little?

I am in Margate, Kent

Not sure how good these are but I’m sure Mr Bonder will be the best person to advise

Any recomendations for what to look out for/ask for when finding a good tuner?
I had mine done by these:
https://www.superchips.co.uk/ECU-Remap/BMW/Z4-E89-2009-2015/Petrol/sDrive20i-2-184-bhp/stage-1

Owned by www.remapkings.com now but is a superchips file. They come to you and it is a generic remap.
18 months and no issues whatsoever.
