This is going to sound weird, but did the 2.0i z change some of the sizes of the exhaust parts slightly after the facelift?
Storytime: I'm replacing the catalytic converter on my car, and two parts I've ordered don't fit the stock exhaust manifold. As you can see in the images, firstly, the cat I ordered didn't quite line up with the old one in terms of the angles. This I thought was down to being a somewhat cheap part (it's only temporary, I'll upgrade it within a year). The flange also didn't fit, it was the right height, but wider than the original so won't fit on the exhaust manifold. I've managed to frankestein the two parts together now so that's not too much of an issue.
The other issue was with the gasket between the two (also pictured). This had the same issue with the flange, too wide. This I ordered from Autodoc by entering my reg, so should be the correct year? It's happened twice across two sites so must be something more then me being a div - hopefully
