2.0 to 2.8

My Z is coming to 3 years old and I'm going in to chat with my friendly salesman later this week about a possible change to a 2.8. It's either change or keep mine, I've only done 10k in 32 months but they've been a mostly very enjoyable 10k, so my car has lots of life in it yet and the 5 year service pack

So I'm wondering if the increase in performance is really worth the expenditure. I'd probably keep the rest of the spec similar, m sport with just a few extra goodies, but I'd change the colour from blue with cream trim to either black or white with tan trim ( can't remember the correct names). Does the 2.8 have anything else in standard M Sport trim that the 2.0 doesn't?

Cheers

Hi

For the record, the "2.8" (sdrive28) is a 2.0 engine......
It is effectiviely the same engine as the sdrive20 but in a higher state of tune

Yep I know that the 1.8, 2.0 and 2.8 are the same engines but bhp figures are something like 154, 184 and 238 respectively. I miss the 220 bhp of my previous boxster but that's the only thing I miss about it.

I just went the other way (28 to 20), I can't think of anything that's different.

I don't even notice the difference in BHP TBH, but that's probably down to my driving style.

you should find that with the discount offers on the 28i, you would be paying the same now on the 28i than you would have done on the pcp for the 20i 3 years ago

my payment from upgrading from the 20i to 35is is an additional £80 per month, 1k deposit and 4 years instead on 3 on pcp

I wouldn't take that deal. Seems good but not for me. I want zero in and under £300 per month or I'll keep mine.

(I've got auto dipping mirrors too)

I presume you mean after you have traded in your current car?

I think anther question is, do you find your 2.0 lacking in power?

I know I am not an purist - but cost of ownership is an big factor - hence why I went for an 28 from 335i

Do I miss the power = no
Do i miss the cost of ownership = no
Do i miss the sound = YES

However for me the 2.0 felt lacking in overtaking prowess

I agree, with 5 cars between 2 of us cost is an issue ( although not the most important one) and it's weekend toy after all.

I do miss the greater urgency of the porsche but nothing else and there have only been a couple of occasions where I've felt I needed more power. Always nice to have more horses though and to be honest I'd have a 3.5 if the deal was similar but I doubt it will be

I'll see what's on offer

Cheers
