2.0- roof buttons amber and red lights flashing constantly

Hi,

My '08 2.0 roadster has developed a fault - both the amber and red lights flash constantly at the roof buttons.
Nothing happens when I try to open the roof.
The roof was up when this first started, it hadn't been down for weeks.
I have checked the switch in the boot (shelf was down) and it appears to be ok.
The fault disappeared after removing the battery for 15 mins, and i put the roof up & down twice, hopefully ruling out the motor & fuses.
The lights started flashing again when I unlocked it in my garage this morning!
Any ideas?

Nothing in the manual, had the battery off again & has been clear all afternoon, roof worked fine.
Fingers crossed ....
 
if there is such a thing as a roof control module then that is where I would start. What else could it be?
 
after taking the battery off everything is ok for a while, but then the flashing lights come back eventually.
time for a diagnostic i think.
 
Strange things can happen when the battery is on the blink - 5 year old battery - perhaps worth checking before spending lots of dosh on diagnostics etc.
 
And as a very blunt question: there is nothing in the boot pushing the shelf (slightly) upwards?

Good advice-makes sense to check it first :thumbsup:
 
Has been ok for a few days now. (still fingers crossed!)
Boot is empty, shelf switch visually makes contact.
I did consider the battery, the car is 5 yrs old with only 20,000 miles, 1st owner hardly used it for 4 yrs!
Checked it & saw 12.4v at the battery with the engine off, 14.4v with it running, so that seems ok.
If this comes back, i will be going for a diagnostic.
