2.0 question

To all the z4 2.0i owners,
Ok, so this model was released without the power roof option. I did a search around, but i couldn't find any info. Is it possible to retrofit the poser roof on a 2007 2.0i z4 ? There's this car that I feel is perfect in every other way. Its loaded with options as well.. Just .. JUST the power roof missing. :x And its got two other buttons in the place of the power roof buttons under the dash.

In a way, I cant imagine why they would release any z4 model without even a possible option for a power roof.. So i was guessing there should be some way.. there is, right ? :|
 
hi falkonindian, i have a 2.0 with power roof, as standard on se model. not sure of the work involved in retrofitting power hood but i dont see why you couldnt do it.
 
Thanks for the reply.. The 2.0 SE I noticed has a normal set of buttons under the dash. The drastic thing about the normal 2.0i is that there seems to be no provision to add a button under the dash for the power roof(I'm not sure if the button console itself can be changed).. such a brilliant car otherwise..
 
From other posts I've read on here, the buttons would be replaced under the dash. It's the same if you retrofit heated seats. I'm sure someone will be along soon to confirm this .

The panel with the switches is simply held on by a number of torx screws. I have recently retro-fitted heated and electric seats, I had to buy a switch panel with the heated seat buttons, was simply plug and play. Obviously the roof motor wont be there though so can't help on that front. Can't remember reading here of anyone having retrofitted a power roof. I thought all models came with it. I'm sure they do in the UK anyway.
 
It might be do-able but I doubt it will be cheap or easy! I would image you'll need the motor, the wiring, a new roof itself (as I'm guessing the non powered one has manual clips to lock it in place) and various other bits. Probably cheaper to wait for one to come along with a powered roof!

Weird....I though all facelift vehicles had the power roof. Can't imagine a retrofit is particularly easy though....

X2. This the best answer. imo it will be a lot of hassle there are plenty about.
 
perhaps offtopic, but what is X2?

I cant digest the fact that they actually had a model post facelift which expects the user to get off and push the roof up manually. perhaps the recession made them think people wouldn't mind doing that... And they were right! otherwise, I wouldn't be seeing too many of these up for sale with all the dealers at the moment..
 
x2 is Times 2 as in the following poster is agreeing with what was posted above.

Guess BMW think of anything to launch a cheap model. No roof power, couple of cylinders missing, etc.

I would say the retrofit is doable. You'll need a complete roof, frame and hydraulic set up, new harness and console panel. Beyond that just a lot of tedious assembly work,

I guess if you can find a good one in a breakers cheap then worth a try, else swap cars.
 
I think there is a roof on eBay for 450 pounds at present. Not sure if it is manual or electric though.
