2.0 or 2.5

Is there much difference in a 2.0l and a 2.5l Z?

I am looking at 2 tomorrow and the same dealer has both in my price range

Comparable wise are they that far apart with things like MPG, Speed, Acceleration, Room for upgrades etc.

2.5 is 6 cyl which will be a lot smoother than the 2.0 4cyl engine.

Personally I would go for a 6cyl in the zed.

Drive them both and you will notice a big difference - then the choice will be easier :D

2.2 gets you the smoothness of the 6 cyl but not much of a power gain over the 2.0 and and precious little fuel saving over the bigger 6cyl units. Actually it's a similar story with the 2.5... unless insurance is a big concern I'd be inclined to go for the 3.0 if you can find one in good condition for the right money.

Mpg will be better in the 2.0i. Drive both and see which you prefer.

I like having some power when I nail the throttle so would go for the bigger engine. However, each to their own, what's right for me might not be right for you :)

Get the 3.0

2.5 only has 5 gears, 6th makes long journeys a lot more economical and it has more power than the 2.5, and more power is always better!

6 cylinder very time

Such a shame BMW and now putting the 4 cylinder twin turbo engines in the majority of their mid range cars :(

Don't be put off by the 2.0 litre too quickly - I loved my 2.0i Sport - in 'real world traffic' the 2.0 litre can be useful. The 4 cylinder engine is very smooth too and revs very easily especially in 2nd and 3rd. I found it a fun engine on the road - better fuel consumption and servicing costs. Handling wise it was excellent and it had enough performance on the road - why complicate with an extra 2 cylinders if there's enough performance for you? Didn't stop me going for a 3.0 litre though and that engine is very special in the Zed. Can't comment on the 2.2. and 2.5 but be careful as some of the 2.5 engines have different outputs - some are more powerful than others.
I've now got a 3.0si as I wanted to experience the six cylinder engine ownership and I couldn't ignore the Forum! The 3 litre is a cracker of an engine with a glorious noise though you pay for the performance in the mpg when you start to use that performance. BUT it depends what you want to do - the 3.0 litre will top 30 mpg on an easy run and more on a steady motorway trip. Driving the 3.0 litre is a different experience and is very special - however - driving the 2.0 litre is fun too - you can spend a lot more of your time chasing the red zone and the cornering ability is up there with the 3 litre. I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss it - just be careful you don't end up buying two versions one after another. . .

Try both before you make your mind up - but do consider a 3.0 litre rather than a 2.5 - there are plenty out there and with patience you'll find a lovely example. Check out the 'for sale' section on this Forum. Good luck!

Totally agree and a good post, dont get me wrong i love my 2L and agree with the above comments regarding the 2L i just want more BHP, and find it frustrating atm as the 4 pot is very limited to tune or supercharge without massive costs, the 2L as a whole is a great engine and can be fun, ur choice but choose wisely

Just put down my deposit on a 2.5 si this morning :driving: so chuffed! I'm only 21 with 3 years NCD (4 in sep) so the 3l was just too much on cost but also I travel quite a bit so MPG plays a part too.

Picked up a 2.5l with built in SatNav, 215bhp, some added extras and 3 months warranty for £8000 from a dealer as I was paying over finance

Pick it up Tuesday so will get some pics up soon :D

Really depends on your driving style...

FWIW in my 2.5 I get about 27-30 in my normal driving which is mostly urban with a bit of dual carriageway. 34-35 is about all I get on a motorway run, though I think 40 would be achievable if I had the patience to do a constant 65.

All of the above beats the 15-20 mpg my RX8 did though!
