2.0 or 2.2

Hi Guys
I am just about to buy my first Zed, but need some advice.
Due to budget I am looking at a 2.0.
My question is I need low insurance cost and good mpg thats the reason for the 2.0, but have read on here that a 2.2 might be better , more reliable and not much more in cost overall.
Whay do you think.

As already stated, the 2.2 for the sound alone, but also for the reliability. I believe the 2.0 is prone to many issues that the larger engines are not

awaits ESP & Mack....

True!
That said I've blocked all ESP's and his fanboy's posts etc since all that. Just so I dont let myself get drawn into that again! Especially when all I was doing was giving a newbie the facts and some advice.

Back on topic, OP of these two its the 2.2 everytime. There's just way too many well documented problems with 2.0 engine. When you couple much much better reliability to the fact the I6 engines are nicer/smoother and sound better its a no brainer engine wise. Unless the extra circa 4-5 MPG's you get with a 2.0 are critical to you. Insurance is pretty much the same as they're the same group.

On a jovial note, something I hadn't noticed (as I don't see their posts anymore) but a fellow forumite pointed out to me when I met up with them the other day. When all the "I've got a problem with my 2.0 engine" threads appear on here, which seems to be on average 3-4 times a week , guess who's no where to be seen, never posts, conspicuous by their absence. I guess their too embarassed/ashamed! :poke:

is there a list of what problems it suffers from more than the 2.2

Google BMW engine N42/N46 issues and clear your diary for a week!
Seriously though, there are numerous common faults on this engine.

Straight six every time, sorry if that offends anyone. :)

No offence taken here... I'm with you fox!

6 cylinders every time with BMWs but each to their own... I'd suggest test driving a 2.2 before agreeing to a 2.0 though and make your own call, if you're not a petrol head you may not care or even notice the difference between a 4 and 6 cylinder.

thanks for the advice really wondering what to do now over here in Belfast not much on offer so the 2.0 seemed a good deal at a good price

You've probably seen this, but this looks well looked after, with a full service history...

Hi there I had this dilemma about a month ago I looked at so many 2.0 and although they are nice and sound ok I got in the first 2.2 I looked at and I was sold the sound and to me it feels a bit more stable and if your gonna do it why not go for the straight 6 the costs aren't that much different and you only live once after all
All the best.
Matt.

I was sold on a 2.0 after taking one out....but i ended up buying a 3.0 after the advise on here. Not much difference in running costs, insurance the same and the straight 6 is wonderful.
