2.0 N46 modification to help with cracking manifold.

Having recently had my exhaust manifold welded I started to do a bit of research, the route course of the problem is a combo of poor design, not strong enough and the main issue which is heat caused. Apparently the cracking is a RHD issue, this is because the steering column leaves little room and the exhaust bay gets very hot and extreme heat to the manifold. In turn the extreme heating and cooling fatigues the meal and Bob's you uncle it cracks.
I have found a suggested modification to add a 1mm stainless steel floating shield 10-15mm below the heat shield. The theory is that this will help keep the bay stay cooler by adding a radiant barrier and convection gap and so reducing the extreme heat cycle and reducing the thermal shock to the manifold. Which all sounds plausible.

What are your thoughts on the heat issue and modification to help?
