2.0 Engine issue

Bit of an odd one.

Today following a fairly spirited drive around some local twisty roads my zed has a weird engine sputter/ power cut.

After about a good 30 mins of driving with no issues, no power losses (other than being a 2l) , I was heading home and following usual traffic at below 30mph for about 15 mins. A car in front of me wanted to turn right, so I stopped briefly until the car cleared, and then as I went to pull away the car just died. It never stalled, but felt like it wanted to stall. It lunged as if it had stalled then started spluttering like it was running one cylinder. EML light came on, as well as the amber circle with exclamation mark. I immediatey pull into a side road and for a few seconds it’s still sputtering until I shut off the engine. After 30 I start the car, it fires up fine with no splutter. I drive about 2 mins and EML goes off. Once I got home, which is only 10 mins drive, I plug in Carly to see if there’s any codes and none are showing.

This has never happened before. So I’m not sure what to check first. It’s recently had an inspection 1 service. Is a 107k 2007 car. I don’t thrash it, always warm up before I drive spiritedly. Any ideas what may have caused this?

I had this on a 60k 2007 2.0 a couple of times. Along with recurrent EML it could not be diagnosed and after two months the car went back to the dealer. So dodged a bullet!
Sorry of no great help to you though. Good luck

Sounds Valvetronic motor / eccentric shaft sensor related. Do a search on here for some bedtime reading. If it does it again, give the Valvetronic motor a tap with a wooden mallet to see if improves. Check the eccentric shaft sensor for signs of oil contamination.
