1st Week 1st Roof Problem

Collected it Friday and took it out in the Peak District today.

The roof worked fine off the key when I picked it up (no smartop so retracts only) and from inside the car.

Driving round the Peak District today for about 2 hours (roof up due to inclement weather) I had the roof warning light come on intermittently on 2 occasions. It didn't stay on for long but I managed to navigate the iDrive screen to see a message about the roof not being latched correctly before it went off.

Any ideas what I should be looking at to resolve - unfortunately not had chance to get the code reader on it due to the crap weather?

I think we should have some stickers of roof failures.
Bit like on the side of fighter planes to mark how many enemy shot down.
Well, more than 1 roof failure per decade(!) is self caused by wrong approach - always. :driving:

The car is booked in with Mike at the Zedshed in Warrington next week - fingers crossed for a "while-u-wait" resolution.

Fortunately the intermitent fault is not preventing me from using the car and the roof does still operate

Four weeks on and I never got to the ZedShed because the issue resolved itself after I got the first wash on the car and treated all the rubber seals with Swissvax.

Must admit I didn't expect that to resolve it but the intermittent issue has not returned despite numerous use and the error code is no longer being returned when I plug the code reader in

Happy days but let's see how long it lasts.

You should follow the maintenance list step by step before it will stuck the next time!

Agreed and will do - thanks for taking the time to collate all that information in one place

I’ve had this on two E89s. It was the microswitches for the rear clam located on the hinge. Very easy to replace.

It thinks the clam shell is open when the car flexes. Only one was out of spec when tested but changed both for good measure. It never returned.

Top tip. Use a soldering iron on the two very small torx head retaining bolts as they have loctite on. This softens it and allows you to use them again as otherwise they round off.

They cost around £50 each and you will need to rep in using your old connector.

All in about 1.5 hrs.

Part No.

I will dig my old post out.

Photos I took re pinning to avoid soldering as that can fail due to flexing.
