I pull out of the pub, hoof it, go to change up into 2nd, perfect gear change... Oops... Maybe not!

It only seems to happen from 1st to 2nd, is this something to do with the gearbox or is it just my driving??

Gearbox ;) I tend to hold the clutch down just a little longer then into second works for me :D

si-forks is now tapa chatting in HD

I've never had a problem changing gear even in spirited mode :driving:

Maybe just co-ordination between accelerator, clutch and gear change, try it again !

Oh I'm sure I'll get a chance!

- I'll think about that next time si

Just wondering if a different gear knob would help...

Many like the ZHP on here or you could ask our resident, all things machined, Machine Monkey

Thanks for the plug Daren

I didn't like the gear change or position of the standard knob!! Hence my decision to make a new one. I think the lower and heavier knob helps. Trying one of mine or a ZHP can't hurt? It's a fairly cheap thing to try

Loads of people from ZPost get that, including me. It's a common fault sadly. Lots of threads about 2nd gear grind.

One of the suggested solutions was stiffer transmission mounts, did that no change. Others report it's solved it but not for me. Other solutions: wait just a split second longer before slamming 2nd gear in (i usually try that but sometimes forget and do it at warp speed ---> GRRRINGD), pushing the gear lever not just backwards into 2nd but backwards + left as well into 2nd (most times don't remember to actively do this personally), upgraded engine mounts specifically the Vibratech units (i'll eventually do this at some point as it's an improvement in the shifting action all around apparently)

I'm sure that I've read that if you set of in 2nd gear you are just a quick 0-60 and much smoother, I haven't tried it myself, maybe someone can confirm ? :driving:

It's not your driving I used to get it too & it frustrated me alot, I like to change gear swiftly from 1st to 2nd but the zed doesn't let you unless you put up with the mechanical slam it used to drive me mad!

The M3's gearbox still isn't great but it does let you do it quickly but it's still a long throw & if I am honest the gearbox in the zed was my least favourite thing about it.

Here Monkey - your first chance to do a custom ///M logo and widen your market :D

Just google ///M gear knob, and don't forget it has six gears. Can't be hard for a man of your talents

Of course then we'll have to work on how to illuminate one in the future. Just in time for me getting an ///M
