Hi all--!

Well last night I was driving home from work around 10PM, I was behind the back of a Mustang something, He was all over the road~~~~~~
In my mind I had 2-options, pull over on a dark road with no shoulder more dangerous, or pass him when I get a a legal area to do so!
Since I drive this road often, Finally when I see him swerve right almost hitting the shoulder, I gunned it in 3rd gear---and passed him on the left.
As I passed him, he speed up to try to catch me, dam idiot now he wants to drag me :o Well a little more on the pedal and goodbye Drunk :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed:

Motto of this story, The Zed 3.0 is fast, and this was the 1st time the need for speed saved me! I am looking forward to the performance driving event at homecoming 2008, now lets try that on some curves :D :D Oh yes, I love my Martini's but not behind the wheel of a auto

Best thing to do.
Floor your Z in front of him/her but at the same time ride the brake with your left foot so your brake lights will come on this will confuse the drunk into braking or swerving off the road! Result

007-Z4, You'll want to meet up with us at Deal's Gap at Noon on 8/28. 321 turns in 11 miles or so will give you a real good feel how the car responds. It is a load of fun.

I have a similar story. Just after I got my Zed, and it is just a plain Jane 2.5i, I was coming home from a friends home late at night on a very dark deserted road with big trees on both sides of the road. The speed limit in the area was 50mph and there was a guy going way over that speed at times and then he would slow way down and weave all over the road. Obviously he had something too much to drink or whatever he was doing a poor job of driving. He was in a Porsche 911. I too decided to pass him in one of his slow times. After I did of course he followed me very closely until we were in town. At the next light, he started to holler at me and gave me the proverbial finger. Well that pissed me off and I had no idea how my Zed would match up against his car, but as the light turned green we both went off. That particular road is one that crosses an old abandoned railroad track that rises slightly as the old tracks have been paved over. Also it goes from two lanes to one quite quickly after you go over the tracks. The person in the right hand lane is supposed to yield to the person in the left lane. I was in the left lane. As we hit the abandoned tracks with the slight raise, we both went airborne. I was slightly ahead of him at the time and he started to go off the road to the right but corrected and came in behind me again. I hit the big curve just after the impromptu jump and slid around that corner hard to the left. The Porsche did not make it and slid up the curb and grass to the right with many sparks and I am sure damage to the undercarriage.

After that event I had time to reflect just how stupid I had been. I could have called 911 and reported the fellow and just kept my distance and drove into town. I could have ignored him at the light and just passed it off as just another drunk. But I didn’t and risked my life, his life, and who knows who else I may have hit if I had lost control and slammed into someone going around that curve. We all like to show off in our hot cars, I understand that, but there are many professional racers out there who have hot cars and could easily blow away guys like this and show their professionalism by behaving themselves. I guess I am an amateur and just can’t restrain myself. My wife hopes that I will grow up someday, but it is a loosing fight and false hope. :)

Hi all-

Would love to meet on the 28th, I will not be arriving till early morning Friday through Sunday! Dam I will miss the drive on Thursday :( Thanks Ducks for the offer. I am anxious to meet all of you at the Homecoming! Are we going to make a list of people from our Forum who will be going to Homecoming--- so we can maybe meet at another location for a small gathering, just a thought--Any ideas?

Bob

By the way PhilDZ4, congratulations on your anniversary. You know that I am older than dirt, but the love of my life and I just celebrated our 45th on June 21, 2008. I want to celebrate my 75th like my granddad did. :)

007-Z4 here is a thread that was started yesturday... http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=5318

I know a couple of pro racers and on the public streets, they drive like grannies. Probably feeling more uncomfortable on our crazy roadways than on the track. I've also seen similar characteristics on interviews with some of the name racers.

Pertinent to 007-Z4's initial topic, I always feel more comfortable having a drunk behind me where I can enjoy the views ahead without the distraction. Drunk drivers are less likely to hold speed and why waste your time watching them weave and drive erratically. I've experienced similar antics of speeding up when you pass so I don't make it an option and dust them during a slow down or shoulder drive. If all they soon see is tail lights, their attention on you fades and they fall back to weaving.

I seldom night drive anymore but with a cell phone, I'd be apt to come up behind, get the plate number, call it in, dust them and continue on my way.
