Hi All,

Well The Z4 is now 3 years old and needed its MOT by the end of the month. I waited for a dry day lol and popped it to my local bodyshop/mechanic/MOT station last night.

All went very well apart from when he tested the washers i was standing close by and got covered in screen wash! He commented the brakes were very good too.

Anyway If i hadnt been so late i would have took the replacement CDV and got it changed. He knew exactly what i was on about so ill pop by in the next month or so.

I have to be honest and say ive not used the Z4 much and was pretty concerned when i drove there and felt a rumble from the tyres!!! I thought FLAT SPOTTING!! But didnt notice it at all on the way home...

Can light flat spotting correct itself?

Cheers

A quick wipe over and wax friday afternoon now..

Not matter how much maintenance and TLC I lavish on my Zed its always a relief when the MOT guy says it's passed!

Flat spot - depends how long the vehicle has been standing - it's not the rubber that distorts but the internal metal cords and once these distort the wheels can become pretty much unrecoverable. If the rumble has gone then you may be OK. If you leave it again for a long period then over-inflate the tyres (say 45 psi) and this should reduce the potential to flat spot BUT remember to set to the correct pressures before you drive - stick a note on the steering wheel to remind you. If for very long periods then axle stands are the best solution.

I'd have to partly diasagree with Alan. Once the tyres warm up they'll return to normal pretty quick unless oyu've done something pretty stupid or left them for months on end pancake flat.

I park my Jeeps all Winter and with mud in the rims they end up sitting pancake flat for weeks. When you drive off you'd swear they are square but after 10 miles and warmed up back to normal. I'd not advocate anything so extreme on the Zed...

I agree to either over inflate or better if stood for a long time lift the wheel off the ground, best on the jacking points to relax the suspension, but we're talking months not weeks here

CJ - yes agree, certainly depends on circumstances and tyre quality. I leave my Zed for 6 months with over-inflated tyres (PS2s) and have never had a problem. As for my Jeep I run that at 15psi to get through the sand - and still get stuck!

Thanks guys,

Yes its been months not weeks...... I have decent pressure in the tyres but i am aware of flat spotting.

Anyway im hoping this wont be an issure now the weathers picking up lol

Cheers

Maybe what you were feeling was rust on the discs. They'll be noisy and vibrate until you've cleaned them up by driving.
