Does anyone else find first gear really annoying? Almost impossible to pull out at junctions reasonably quickly without it just revving like a beast then jerking when going into 2nd. Maybe my last car was just too easy to drive and it's made me a sloppy driver! :driving: :?
 
1st to 2nd is a well known "thing"

You'll get a bunch of recommendations to remove the CDV but I've just got used to the car and have no issues. (Now guaranteeing captain kangaroo for a week)
 
I sometimes just come out of junctions sideways instead, and change into 2nd once it's straightened up :P

Alternatively I boot it and change into 2nd before it's hit 3000rpm.
 
Just have to be gentle with the accelerator :)

I find it's noticeable mainly when it's cold and the car hasn't warmed up...In warm weather or once on the move it's better.

I also think that different fuel has an effect on this (but that might just be in my head).... Either way I notice a difference in throttle response on my bikes using different fuel so I always use V-power/ BP ultimate in my cars.

Another thing I found that helped with the clutch was adjusting my seating position so I was further forward making it easier to fully depress the clutch (so I was over the pedal rather than "reaching for it" if that makes sense).
 
Yes, I find it really annoying. I believe the torque is electronically limited in 1st gear too.
 
I tend to use 1st just to get it moving and then straight to second.
It's worse when cold, as mentioned above, but you do get used to it.

I tend to take three or four seconds to change gear when it's still cold.
Besides you can't hurry round our estate due to all the cars that neighbours have inconsiderately dumped parked on blind bends or opposite junctions. (I know you probably don't live on our estate so I'm sorry for hijacking the thread to have a moan :( )
 
I found the same issue when I first got mine but, as has been said above, just kinda got used to driving around it.

Having said that, I had the cdv removed a week or so ago and it has made a noticeable improvement, but only you can decide how much it irritates you or if the delay is overly intrusive to your driving experience.
 
What kind of differences did you find after removing the CDV? Smoother between first and second?
I suppose second gear does make up for the first, all it takes is a press of the foot to go from :( to :D , my first 2 weeks with the z I've averaged 17 mpg so it's fair to say I've been enjoying it lol!
 
Removing CDV doesn't really improve the gear change as such but makes the clutch (biting point) more controllable therefor I am now able to make a more consitent change. CDV drove me nuts, so yeah I'm one of those guys that recommend to take it out, hit it with a hammer and kill it with fire :P

Glad to read I'm not the only one struggling with this issue.

Slightly of topic; whats the consensus on 6th gear? Since the s54 is quite torque'y I would have liked it to be a bit longer so cruising on the motorway is at lower rpm (hence more relaxed on long journeys).
 
I too feel that the M is somehow limited in first gear, never tried just flooring it and not changing to second to test it but it just feels a bit nannied as if dsc ii on even though iswitch it off. :?
 
So it always felt that my changes were ahead of the car, lift clutch quick hit the loud pedal and wait... clutch engages kangaroo ensues and then we're off. :headbang: I over exaggerate, the wait was fractions of a second but noticeable none the less.

From a feeling point of view it was like because I had stamped on the gas, the clutch couldn't engage properly and was bouncing or fluttering on the fly wheel causing it to gain and loose drive.

Doesn't do it anymore :thumbsup:

Turn it off and boot it around roundabout.

After the 3rd 360, come back and say the DSC is kicking in :P

Find a dry road with warm tyres and take it to the rev limiter in first with DSC off - you won't stop smiling all day :evil:
 
Then off to the Camskill/oponeo website, where the next number you see will be much higher than the eleven you just wrote on the road :driving:
